TIME – THE BITCH GODDESS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, time flies when you’re having fun and, frankly, time flies when you’re not having fun – time flies whenever it damn well feels like it, is what time does. For example, time has flown this week, both whilst I was having and not having fun. Time – the bitch goddess. I don’t know what that means, but I like the sound of it. Time – The Bitch Goddess – that’s the title of my next novel. In any case, time continues to fly. For example, yesterday time flew like a gazelle in the wind. I got up earlier than I wanted to, did some stuff around these here parts, like errands and whatnot and jogging and whatnot, and then I headed down to LACC, where we rehearsed with the musical director and ran quite a few numbers musically, which is very helpful to the cast. Some kids are doing really well, but others have continual problems singing the correct notes, and after three weeks with a tape I’m beginning to lose patience with them. The one thing I want for these two performances is to hear the songs sung correctly – not necessarily all that well, but correctly. I then supped and came back for a late rehearsal with Tammy and her play partner – we spent about ninety minutes working on their first scene, because once they’ve got that, it informs all their other scenes, which will then be easy (their scenes are basically one long running gag). That was the first time I’ve actually been able to spend time finessing blocking and performance and after ninety minutes the difference was astonishing – now if they can retain it and work on it their stuff will play really well. If I can just do even a little bit of that with all the other leading players, then we might just get through this not too bloodied. We finished around ten-thirty and then I came home, exhausted and ready for my beauty sleep, which I won’t be getting.

I also spent a lot of time yesterday trying to get a timeline for the Deceit DVD release – it’s a lot of coordinating and it’s wearying sometimes to have to deal with all the people one has to deal with. I would love to begin taking preorders in a couple of weeks, but I won’t know about that until some of these folks actually have the courtesy to get back to me with time guesstimates.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because time is flying right now and we all know that time is the bitch goddess.

Today shall be quite intense. We have a one hour class this morning in which I must try to finish blocking the show – I’ve got fourteen pages left, and if everyone cooperates we might just be able to do it. Once that’s done, then we just need to run music. After that, I come back home, do stuff around here, then return to LACC at four – we’ll run music then, too, and any staging we can do. After that, I head over to UCLA for a film music concert conducted by my pal John Scott. I’ll know lots of people there and I suspect it will be grand fun. One of the selections is Mr. Scott’s beautiful score to Anthony and Cleopatra, with selections read by Miss Samantha Eggar and Mr. Michael York.

Friday afternoon will be our final chance to do any musical stuff before heading into our very intense weekend. We begin on Saturday at eleven, although a few of the kids can’t come, always a problem. We’ll work as long as we can – at least until four, and I’m hoping that finally having a five-hour block of rehearsal time will give me a chance to work on the performances and also make certain the blocking (which is simple) is clean and tight. I may even try to run straight through the show from two to four if it looks like that’s the best plan of attack. Sunday, we begin at noon and go until six, then they get an hour break and they’re back for our 7:30 show. Again, I’m going to try and get one run straight through, just for flow and all the mechanics of the entrances and exits – it’s the first time we’ll be performing in the theater, too, so everyone will have to get used to everything as quickly as possible. It’s flying by the seat of your pants, but we have no choice and all we can do is pray it somehow all comes out all right.

Now wait just a darned minute – let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, let’s all dance the Hora and the Can Can, because today is our very own Francois’ birthday. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to dear reader Francois in faraway France. On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO DEAR READER FRANCOIS IN FARAWAY FRANCE!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do all of the above and more. Today’s topic of discussion: We’ve been having word of the days for quite some time now – what are your all-time favorite weird words – preferably ones that we might not even know? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst time flies because, as we all know, time is the bitch goddess.
