IN A PIG’S EYE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I have now written eight opening sentences, all of which had the expression “in a pig’s eye.” Well, now I’ve written nine opening sentences with “in a pig’s eye” in them. I now have for sale at a very reasonable price eight used sentences with the expression “in a pig’s eye” in them. Any takers? Might I just ask what in tarnation that expression means? “In a pig’s eye.” What does “in a pig’s eye” have to do with the price of tomatoes or potatoes or zucchini? Why not “in a yak’s eye” or “in a zebra’s eye?” Why is it only a pig’s eye? I tell you, I am befuddled as regards this expression. Oh, well, I suppose it’s just another of life’s little enigmas. Speaking of enigmas, yesterday was a day that just came and went without so much as a by-your-leave or a bye-your-leave or a buy-your-leave or even a bi-your-leave. First it was Saturday and then it wasn’t. I got up, I packaged up some orders, got them shipped, then came home and jogged. I know I did other things but I cannot remember what they were. I do know that the Kevin Spirtas DVD went “live” and it’s now available for preorders. Remember, the first 100 preorders get signed copies. We’re already down to ninety. Preorders are our lifeblood so if you can preorder, please do so. Even if you have the CD of Night and Days, the DVD of the concert is wonderful. Kevin is very handsome, his performance is something to behold as well as listen to, and the show is really electric and fun. Plus you get a very amusing commentary track. Vinnie was supposed to come over to clone my external drive onto my computer, but he never got here – I’m hoping that can happen today before I have to leave.

Last night, I watched a motion picture on DVD entitled Railroaded, a film noir directed by Anthony Mann prior to his breakout film, T-Men. Since the film was made by PRC Studios, it’s very low-budget-looking. Still, some of it is strikingly directed and it’s a very short programmer. I wish I could say the DVD looked great, but the source material is very soft and very “dupey”-looking. I then began watching a motion picture on DVD entitled Brute Force, but I didn’t get very far, so I’ll finish it and then let you know what I think about it.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below whilst we all write a sentence with “in a pig’s eye” in it.

So, instead of resting on this here Sunday, I shall be jogging, and then I shall be attending an opening day and opening night of two musicals – I Do! I Do! and The Last Five Years, which are playing in rep at the Pasadena Playhouse. Between shows, I’ll be supping somewhere.

This upcoming week is going to be a bit intense, what with several meetings, several lunches, and most importantly, the start of our cabaret series at LACC. I do hope some hainsies/kimlets will be attending, and if any of you are planning on doing so, please let me know, and also please book your tickets. I’ll post the flyer today so that everyone will have the phone number and all the information on the shows.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, jog, and see two new musicals – hopefully, Vinnie will get over here in the morning to clone the external hard drive. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings and let’s all figure out endlessly creative ways to use the expression “in a pig’s eye” in as many of our postings as possible.
