TAKING THE BULL BY THE HORNS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it is quite late and I must now write these here notes in a hurry. Why do I have to write these here notes in a hurry? Where is it written that just because it’s past midnight that I must write these here notes in a hurry? I will NOT write these here notes in a hurry, what do you think about that? I will take my own sweet time and I shall relish writing these here notes or, at the very least, I shall mustard writing these here notes. I will NOT be rushed and any late-night lurkers will just have to wait until these here notes are finished and up for everyone’s mental delectation. My goodness, that was very butch of me, wasn’t it? That was just taking the bull by the horns, wasn’t it? Or was it taking the horns by the bull? It was certainly bull, that much we know. Speaking of bull, I had a very pleasant day yesterday without TOO many annoyances. I got up – always a good sign. She of the Evil Eye arrived and I beat a hasty retreat and let me tell you the retreat was none too happy about being beaten. I paid a visit to our Kritzerland designer, Mr. Doug Haverty, and we dished the dirt and he printed me out a copy of The Brain From Planet X art. I did some other errands and then came back to the home environment. I finally talked to my muse Margaret, and rather than reiterate that conversation here, just check out yesterday’s posts. Suffice it to say that she loves the idea of the book but not its tone or leading character. I got into very specific details and the result of the conversation was that I’ll be completely rewriting the first chapter, and changing various details. She did love some specific scenes and dialogue, so that will all stay, and I think changing the first chapter will inform everything else. Part of that is because the book started out to be one thing, then changed course. As always, Margaret’s instincts are unerring as far as my work goes. What a gift to have a muse like her. I then toddled off for the second performance of Three Men And A Baby Grand at LACC.

When I arrived I was told we had about sixty-seven people coming. Well, once again we picked up a lot of walk-ups because we ended up completely full, even more so than last night. It was a more subdued audience than Friday night, but I thought the show was a bit better last night. Again, everyone loves the space and the audience seemed to have a great time. In attendance was Mr. Marty Panzer, who used to manage and also write with Barry Manilow (at least I think he did). Our very own Cillaliz was there, and what a pleasure it was to finally meet her – she’s a delight! Also in attendance was our very own Adriana Patti and her mum, and Panni/Maria and her darling and beautiful daughter, Rachel. A very nice husband and wife came up to me at intermission and told me that they’d seen What If and had loved it, as had their then fourteen-year-old daughter. They’ll be coming to see The Brain From Planet X this December. After the show, Cillaliz and I went to CafĂ© Figaro and had a lovelier than lovely supper and conversation. We ended the evening at the House of Pies for dessert. What fun.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because while I’m not writing these here notes in a hurry, I am tired and must get my beauty rest.

I now have a large desire to take the bull by the horns, only I don’t know any bulls, nor do I know any horns for that or any other matter. What I do know is that I can barely keep my eyes open because it is late. I also know that I would like to take the bull by the horns but, alas, we cannot always do what we like or, for that matter, like what we do.

Has anyone noticed that I am not writing these here notes in a hurry? I am stuffed to the gills (a product of my stomach shrinking from my weight loss – I get full very fast now), and I feel that if I write these here notes slowly a bull might show up and I can take said bull by the horns. Of course, the bull might not like being taken by its horns in which case I will take the bull by its – well, let’s just stop right there.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, jog, rewrite, relax, and get ready for new dear reader Jeanne’s visit to Los Angeles, California, USA. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we? The first topic can be about taking the bull by the horns, for example, taking the bull by its trumpets or trombones or, if it’s a Gallic bull, by its French horns.
