July 3, 2006:

THE BIG SLEEP

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, yesterday we had what Chester A. Riley would call a revoltin’ development. And what a revoltin’ development it was. I woke up at nine and went to the computer to find it frozen. I powered it down and restarted it – nada, nothing, zippo, squat. It was deader than a doornail and I think we all know just how dead most doornails are. The Apple specialist was unable to get it up and working, and today a box shall supposedly arrive for me to ship it back to them so they can fix it with a new hard drive and whatever else it may need. That takes seven to ten days. However, there is an authorized Mac store in Encino and Vinnie says they do warranty work there, so I’ll call this morning and see if they can fix it. My only fear is that they’re off for the holidays – if they are, I have to make the decision whether to wait for Wednesday or ship it today. In any case, my beloved laptop is sleeping the big sleep, baby, and hopefully in a few days it will be up and running again. The good news is that my external backup drive works perfectly – we were able to boot up on Vinnie’s computer and suddenly his computer was MY computer, which is amazingly amazing. All my documents and everything else was there and in fine shape. Needless to say, I was in a panic for most of yesterday, but I’ll just have to deal with this as best I can and I just won’t be getting any writing done until Ye Olde Computer comes back to me.

Apparently, our new friend Jeanne (to spell her name the way I did in Kritzer Time and even when I knew her way back when) has found a whole mess of photographs from way back when and I’m going to get copies of said photographs. Isn’t that exciting? Isn’t that just too too? And, for those who’ve read Kritzer Time, she somehow has a photo of me in my Littlechap pants and makeup – I’m quite anxious to see that.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because it’s the big sleep, baby – the computer is deader than Pamela Anderson’s career, and unlike her career, the computer’s will at least be revived.

I would tell you what I was going to to today but today is actually tomorrow – that is to say, today, the day you’re reading the notes, was actually yesterday in terms of the writing of the notes. So, today is really tomorrow and, well, I’m just completely confused right now. My Mac guy left me a message saying he has on old Titanium Powerbook I might be able to use while mine is being repaired. That would be excellent. I’m waiting for him to call me back.

So, today (tomorrow) I have no idea what I’ll be doing, because it will depend on whether I have a loaner, computer-wise. If I do, I might try to write, but I also think I’m supposed to go over all the lead sheets for the new musical, so that we can then send them to elmore for his brilliant orchestrations.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, see if the computer fix-it place is open and if it is, if they can fix it. Today’s topic of discussion: We’ve done it before, but I like it – so, what is the worst job you’ve ever had in your entire life – worst job, worst boss, and did you ever quit a job and tell off your superior? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we? And let’s pray for Rosemary’s Baby and that the computer will get over the big sleep very quickly.
