THE MISSING HOURS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, this week is flying by like a gazelle with a hickey. In a mere two days our cabaret series begins with Miss Susan Egan. In a mere three days I’ll be doing the Hollywood Collector’s Show. I am trying to get a lot of stuff done in the meantime, but there don’t seem to be enough hours in the day. Conversely, there don’t seem to be enough days in the hour. Yesterday, for example, there were not enough hours in the day. A few hours went AWOL without telling anyone, least of all me. Yesterday, for example, I awoke early, answered a bunch of e-mails, jogged and then had to get ready for my appearance on the Skip E. Lowe show, with our very own Miss Susan Egan. Skip is a trip and both Susan and I had a lot of fun and it went very well. I did have to bite my tongue on a couple of occasions to keep from laughing out loud – as some of you may know, Martin Short based his Jiminy Glick character on Skip and there were times when he did his thing where it just sounded and looked like Jiminy. After the taping, I went over to LACC. I saw the general lighting plan, made a few suggestions, and heard the mics and sound, all of which will work very nicely. Also, the space has been transformed and it’s quite elegant looking and very comfy. We still have a lot of tickets to sell so I’m hoping that some hainsies/kimlets will be coming (I know that dear reader Laura and occasional dear reader Kerry are coming out for two shows on our final week). After I was done at LACC, I then joined some friends for a nice supper in the Wood of West. I normally don’t like talking on my cell phone, but I had to do quite a bit of that as I motored from place to place. I finally got home about nine-thirty and immediately sat on my couch like so much fish. So, you see, there were not enough hours in the day. And I’d like to know where The Missing Hours went to. The Missing Hours – that sounds like a Douglas Sirk movie starring Miss Dorothy Malone and Mr. Jeff Chandler, doesn’t it?

Last night, I began watching a motion picture on DVD entitled Grand Prix. I must say the transfer looks pretty terrific. Thus far, the movie is exactly as I remember it – excellent racing sequences and turgid dramatics. Those who saw it at an impressionable age think it’s a brilliant film. That it isn’t – certainly not Mr. Frankenheimer’s finest hour. And I find Maurice Jarre’s score entirely irksome. But, I’ll finish it and then talk some more about it. I also am looking forward to The Loved One and A Fine Madness on DVD, both of which I’ll be watching once I finish the three-hour Grand Prix.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I have a lot to do today and one simply cannot tarry and/or dally in this section any longer.

Today I have a lunch meeting, then will be trying to finish the two songs I’ve been slaving over, and also I must write a page or three of what I hope will be the new book. I must also pay a visit to Mr. Grant Geissman, for it is time to design the cover for the short story collection, which I have to get to the publisher in the next few weeks. Later in the evening I’ll be hooking up with a friend for a late-night powwow and snackwow. I do hope there are no Missing Hours in today’s hours.

I must also organize all the stuff I’ll need for the weekend signing at the Hollywood Collector’s Show, as I’ll be quite busy all day Friday. I’ve been asked to attend the funeral of Miss Laura Elliott aka Miss Kasey Rogers aka Mrs. Guy Haines. It’s at three on Friday and I’m going to try my hardest to be there. I have to be at LACC at five-thirty for Susan’s sound check and lighting go-through. So, I won’t have any time on Friday to deal with getting photos and DVDs and CDs together – I’ll have to do all that tomorrow.

Now wait just a darned minute. Let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, let’s dance the Hora and the Swim, for it is the birthday of our very own Cillaliz. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to our very own dear reader Cillaliz. On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO OUR VERY OWN DEAR READER CILLALIZ!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, jog, meet, eat, write, make telephonic calls, and drive about in my motor car doing errands and whatnot. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we? And, if you missed any of yesterday’s postings, there were some lovely comments on the Deceit DVD, so check them out.
