START SPREADIN’ THE NEWS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must write these here notes quickly for in just a few short hours I shall be arising and I shall be on my way to the airport and once there I shall be on my way to New York, New York, so start spreadin’ the news, I’m leavin’ today. I’m very excited about the trip and I’m looking forward to each and every day, not necessarily in that order. I’ll be seeing people, rehearsing and doing a staged reading, and seeing people. I’m sure that each and every day will be chockfull of fun things to do. Speaking of fun things to do, yesterday I did some fun things, like banking, booking transportation from the Newark airport to Manhattan, taking care of everything that needed taking care of, and packing a suitcase. For a trip of this length, that proved daunting, what with my one and only overnight bag. It became instantly clear and also clear instantly that I would not be able to pack my jogging shoes, so either I buy a new pair whilst there (which I can ship back to LA along with some other stuff so I can pack a bit lighter on my return), or I don’t jog. I’ll probably buy a new pair. If it’s raining, I’ll try to do a day pass at a gym every morning (our rehearsals are in the afternoon). I did manage to pack several shirts and an extra pair of pants, and all the other things that needed packing. My toiletries case is pretty empty, since I’m going to have to buy most of that stuff once in New York, because of the rather ridiculous safety precautions that are now in effect (no moisturizer – I mean, really), so I put my backup drive in there, which was very convenient. So, all I need to do when I arise is to put the toiletries bag into the suitcase and zip the thing up. Once I got all that done, I did get a few moments to sit on my couch like so much fish.

Yesterday, I managed to watch two count them two motion pictures on DVD. The first motion picture on DVD was entitled Weird Woman, another Inner Sanctum Mystery from the new box set. It was silly but very entertaining and I’m now officially in love with Anne Gwynne, for she do do that voodoo. I love that these are sixty-one minutes long – it’s actually like watching a radio drama – all the weird music and sounds, but with very atmospheric photography and direction. Lon Chaney is apparently is all of these films, and it looks like they shot all the films in a row, since he has the exact same ‘do and moustache, at least in the first three. I then watched the second motion picture on DVD, which was entitled Dead Man’s Eyes and, yes, Virginia, it was another Inner Sanctum Mystery. It, too, was fun, but not nearly as good as Calling Dr. Death or Weird Woman, although I found Acquanetta rather fetching. Whatever happened to her? Again, the transfers are really excellent.

Well, why don’t we all click on Unseemly Button below because it’s time to start spreadin’ the news.

I cannot remember if I’ve ever flown Continental Airlines before. In any case, I’m flying them on this trip and I always enjoy trying a new airline. If we’re on time, I should be in the city by four-thirty or five, and I will immediately set up Ye Olde Computer and see if I can figure out how the high-speed Internet thing works.

Tonight, I’ll be supping at the home of Skip and Fred, and there will be some other visitors, too. I will, of course, have a full report. Then tomorrow rehearsals begin (I have a pre-rehearsal rehearsal with Skip to go over my music – I haven’t really done much in terms of the stuff I sing with everyone else, but I think I am getting familiar with my three solo things). I’m looking forward to meeting my other castmates, too.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, fly to New York, New York. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. Keep the home fries burning until my returning, when I’ll be posting live from New York, New York.
