September 2, 2006:

WINNER

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it is quite late and I have just arrived home, so I must write these here notes in a hurry because I really do need my beauty sleep. I will say right here and now and also right now and here that September got off to a nice start after the little hiccup last night when our discussion board was down for a few hours. Yesterday was another one of those days that just kept on going like the Energizer Bunny. For example, I woke up, jogged right away, and then went off to my morning meeting, which was actually kind of annoying and I am reassessing whether I want to work on this particular one-person show. We’ll see how the next meeting goes and when exactly that occurs. I then came home, did all the errands that needed doing, and then I toddled off to the Colony Theatre to check out the space and hear what the deal is. We were very pleased with everything we heard and I believe it’s where we’ll be doing this little project at the end of January. I’ll tell you all more about it in a couple of months. I then came back home and got ready to go to Mr. David Wechter’s for an evening of poker. Rather amazingly, there was absolutely no traffic going out there (nor was there any on the other side of the freeway), which was really lovely. All the participants of the poker game brought their kids and the kids played poker in the other room whilst we played in the living room. They had a great spread of food from Numero Uno, and I had three count them three pieces of their yummilicious pizza, plus some salad and a couple of their small parmesan rolls. Since that was my only meal o’ the day, I think it was just fine. We started playing poker around eight-fifteen and wrapped it up at twelve-thirty. Apparently, I was the big winner – I was basically ahead from the first hand and I never really went down. I ended up about forty bucks ahead. The other players were all folks I know well and we had lots of fun and lots of laughs. I think the idea is for the game to become more regular, which would be very nice indeed. And that was the day and that was the night.

Yesterday, I did manage to watch a DVD just before I left, which was entitled Godzilla vs. Mothra. It’s a DVD from Australia, but I didn’t realize it’s coming out here in the US on Tuesday or I wouldn’t have bought it. I’ll have to get the US version, because the subtitles on the Japanese language version are terrible on this Ozzie DVD – they go by way too fast and are impossible to keep up with. The image quality, however, is excellent so I won’t get rid of it until I check out the US version. It’s a silly movie, but I’m quite fond of it, because I like the Peanuts (the two twin Mothra girls, who sing our favorite song – Mosura), and I like Mothra. Godzilla is still a meanie in this film (later he would become a good guy), and the whole thing moves along at a steady clip.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because my beauty sleep is awaiting me like a gazelle at the mall.

I do like starting off a month being the big winner, don’t you? I had some really good hands, too, and even some good feet.

This morning I shall be meeting with Miss Alice Ripley briefly, and then I shall visit the little movie memorabilia show at the Renaissance Hotel. After that, I’ll be entering the last of the corrections to the book, and then the book is done and will go off to the publisher. After that, I shall come home and sit on my couch like so much fish and watch DVDs all the livelong night.

I’ve decided that since it is Labor Day Weekend I shall do no labor, and that includes no Unseemly Trivia Contest this week – however, it will resume next week.

Now wait just a darned minute. We’d all better put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, we’d all better break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, we’d all better dance the Hora and the Tapioca, because today is the birthday of dear reader Ron Pulliam. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to dear reader Ron Pulliam. On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO DEAR READER RON PULLIAM!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, jog, meet, visit the Renaissance Hotel, enter corrections, and then sit on my couch like so much fish. Today’s topic of conversation: What are your favorite games of chance, and what are your favorite card games? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we?
