BELLY DANCING

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, a new week begins. I ask you, where else on all the Internet can you get such information? Nowhere, that’s where. This week will be quite busy, quite intense, and, hopefully, quite productive and fun. By the time next Sunday rolls around, I will have been to New York and back. But, I get ahead of myself (no mean feat). Speaking of no mean feat, yesterday was quite a fun little day. It began by me getting out of Ye Olde Bed after a very good night’s sleep. That, for example, was fun. I then toddled over to the Ray Courts Hollywood Collector’s Show. There were some interesting folk there, and the place seemed like it was crowded, but the fact is, there were no long lines for anyone and many celebrities were just sitting there like so much fish. I did spy Mr. Chubby Checker, Miss Barbara Parkins, Mr. Alan Young, Mr. Billy Mumy, the kids from The Sound of Music, Miss Stephanie Powers, Mr. Kevin McCarthy and Miss Dana Wynter (together again), Miss Noell Neill, and many others. The dealer situation has gotten much better, and there was much to look at. I got a few things (I always bring trade material), including a German version of the novel, Vertigo by Boileau and Narcjac, which has a lovely photo from the film on the cover, and a French version of From Here To Eternity, the novel, which is also a movie tie-in version with lots of stills on the jacket – both are quite rare and I got them for a song (“My Funny Valentine). I also got some nice soundtrack CDs from a dealer friend – all free, and some really cherce stuff. I also got some very inexpensive old TV Guides, which I love. I’ll be perusing those over the next few evenings. After that, I shipped a nice package o’ books to Edisaurus, and then came home and did stuff that needed doing. Vinnie came over and installed some software on my computer, so that I can now transfer LPs directly into the computer and from there directly into iTunes. My first attempt at doing so last evening was a rousing success and also a success that was rousing. I had three slices of pizza for dinner – all in all, my kind o’ day.

Last night, I did manage to watch one count them one motion picture on DVD. But the night before, I’d finished another of the Inner Sanctum films, this one The Frozen Ghost. These are silly films, I know, but I must say I’ve enjoyed the three that I’ve seen so far. They’re stylish, weird, and Lon Chaney, Jr. is just a whole lot of fun to watch. And I’m very impressed by the transfers, I must say. The other motion picture I watched was entitled Shoeshine, a film of Vittorio de Sica. No one did this Eyetalian neo-realism style of film better than Mr. de Sica. This film preceded his masterpiece, The Bicycle Thief, and it’s a depressing but wonderful movie. Mr. de Sica had an amazing facility for eliciting great performances from amateurs – in this case, apparently the entire cast. The kids in the film are all fantastic -especially the two leads. Shoeshine is yet to be available on the DVD in the US, but this DVD from the UK is excellent and loaded with extras. If you have a multi-region player, and you like this sort of film, I recommend it highly.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because the new week has begun and I can’t sit here and dawdle, Amaryllis.

Today, I shall be going back to the Ray Courts show, and this time I’ll be joined by our very own Mr. Nick Redman, young Adriana Patti, and former dear reader Hisaka. There will be some folks there who weren’t there yesterday, such as Skip E. Lowe and Miss Edith Fellows, who I may have to say hello, too. We’ll probably eat some lunch at the Daily Grill that’s located in the hotel, and then I’ll come back to the home environment, where I must start getting organized for this busy week. I’m sure I’ll also transfer a few LPs while I’m at it. The good news is that you transfer an entire side of the LP in one fell swoop, so one can attend to other things at the same time.

Perhaps today I’ll approach Miss Barbara Parkins and sing I’ll Plant My Own Tree. Perhaps I won’t. Tonight I’m supposed to go to some belly dancing show in Hollywood – my Russian masseuse is in it and has asked me to attend. I’m not sure I’ll be able to, but I’ll give it Ye Olde College Try.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, jog, attend the Ray Courts show, sup, and maybe have an evening of belly dancing. If there is belly dancing is there knee dancing or elbow dancing or neck dancing? Why only the belly? Why not chest dancing or calf dancing? It is to wonder. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst we all get up and belly dance.
