BIDIN’ MY TIME

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I’m bidin’ my time ’cause that’s the kind of guy I’m. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, I’m bidin’ my time ’cause that’s the kind of guy I’m. That would be a good Guy Haines song, wouldn’t it? In any case, I’m bidin’ my time until I post these here notes so I can get my beauty sleep and get up early and deal with something quite important that will hopefully turn out to my advantage. All excellent vibes and xylophones appreciated. Yesterday, I didn’t really have to bide my time, even thought that’s the kind of guy I’m. No, there was no biding necessary, as I got up early, jogged, shipped packages, and did errands, all before heading over to LACC for rehearsal. I worked with the cast for an hour until our musical director arrived, at which point he took over. The new-to-musicals kids are still having trouble finding their harmony notes, but are getting used to the unison singing. As I said to them, when they get it right it sounds great and I know they can hear that it sounds great – they’re working quite hard and I think it’s going to be just fine and that they’ll get used to finding their harmony notes (there really aren’t that many). I also had to briefly attend a budget meeting regarding our set – I agreed to a little alteration that will save some bucks, and I think we’re all agreed now – construction begins on Monday. After rehearsal, I went to dinner with Miss Adriana Patti and her mother – for an account of said dinner, see last night’s posts. After that, I came home and sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, it was too late to watch an entire feature on DVD, so I watched an HBO documentary on DVD entitled Boffo, a documentary based on the book by Peter Bart, all about the blockbuster mentality in Hollywood, how blockbusters happen (no one has a clew), and the fact that films that seem like sure-fire blockbusters frequently tank, big time. It wasn’t a great documentary by any means, in fact it was really ordinary, but there were some interesting comments by the likes of Jodie Foster, Richard Dreyfuss, Steven Spielberg, Peter Guber, Sherry Lansing, George Clooney, and a host of others. Strangest of them all, Robert Evans, who looks totally out of his mind. I was very surprised that the transfer, which is letterboxed, was not enhanced for widescreen TVs – which is inane in this day and age.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I’m bidin’ my time ’cause that’s the kind of guy I’m, and soon I must hit the road to dreamland so I can deal with what I have to deal with first thing in the morning.

Today, after dealing with what I have to deal with, I must attend rehearsal (our final all-music rehearsal), which I suspect will run about three or four hours. After that, I shall come home and do nothing for the rest of the afternoon and early evening. Around eight o’clock, I’ll toddle over to Vinnie’s for his Halloween partay.

On Monday, we start blocking for The Brain – I’m always on edge the first day of blocking, but it helps that I’ve staged the opening number before, although no one seems to have the same recollection as to exactly what was done where – one person says we did it one way, another says another way, and I have the feeling I’ll basically be using things I remember but really starting from scratch. I’m going to try and have all the big numbers staged by the end of the week, save for the tap dance number, for which a choreographer is coming in on the 11th, after my book signing.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, jog, deal with what I must deal with, rehearse, bide my time ’cause that’s the kind of guy I’m, and then attend a Halloween partay. Today’s topic of discussion: What’s the worst experience you’ve ever had in a restaurant – complete details, please. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, with no biding of time.
