OCTOBERFEST

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, in a few short hours I shall be on my way to the Newark airport and then on my way home to Los Angeles, California, USA. It is amazing to me that this week has flown by like a gazelle having a nicotine fit, but fly by it did. When FJL originally asked me if I’d do this reading, I was taken aback and my original instinct was to say no. But, I’m glad I said yes, because even though it’s been a long time since I’ve done a musical, I really had a good time, despite my little voice worries (most of which reside squarely in my head). The company couldn’t have been nicer or more professional, and the director was very nice. FJL and Skip were terrific to me and their supportiveness made everything about the trip a winner. Yesterday, I got a full night’s sleep. I got up early enough to give myself three full hours to get ready to sing. I had a leisurely cuppa tea, I relaxed and then finally toddled off to do the first of our two performances. We had a very nice crowd – any fears I had about doing an early performance were waylaid as soon as I opened my mouth – my voice was in okay shape and I had no problems whatsoever. The audience was very responsive and the entire cast did a great job – the show flew by like a gazelle having a hissy fit. The director had given me three little notes just before I went on, and they were simple, clear, and concise – I understood them instantly and was able to address them quickly and easily and they were very helpful – small things, but helpful, nonetheless. After the show, I didn’t hang around – I went back to the hotel and relaxed and rested up for the later show. That audience was full and a row of seats had to be added. They weren’t quite as vocal, but they really seemed to enjoy the show. I didn’t feel we were quite as good as the earlier show, but everything went smoothly and I only had one little phlegmball in the opening number – otherwise, I somehow managed to get through both shows without too much trouble.

After the second show, I came back to the hotel for an hour and managed to get just about everything packed. Then I headed over to Joe Allen for our hainsies/kimlets soiree. And what a soiree it was – dear readers Ben, TPunk, Rodzinski, elmore, FJL (and Skip), vixter and vixmom, Kevin Spirtas and cast member, Georga Osborne. We all had a grand time – I showed off my new baby – my freshly minted book. The food was excellent, the conversation, as always, was sparklingly sparkling, and it was the perfect capper to a wonderful week.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I have a very important thing to reveal, oh, yes, I have a very important thing to reveal.

And just what is this very important thing I have to reveal? Get your minds out of the gutter. What I have to reveal is the following important information: It is October. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, it is October and I, for one, am amazed and mind-boggled that September went by so damnably fast, like a gazelle wearing a skinny black pant. So, here we are in a new month (October) and it’s going to be a busy one, so I’d just better gird my loins or, at the very least, loin my girds. Let us make all of October a festival of festivity and festiveness, shall we. Let us have our own haineshisway.com Octoberfest.

Today is going to be a very long day, what with getting up so early and then flying home and then going directly from my house to Brea to record Susan Egan’s live show. It’s going to take everything working like clockwork for me to get there on time for the two o’clock show, but I’m hoping it will all work out. I’m just not sure of how long a drive it is, but if it’s an hour or under we should be okay if there’s no traffic. I have no idea where our recording truck will be parked, so I’ll have to find it. And after that, I shall come home and sit on my couch like so much fish. And Monday shall be mine – no work, no nothing.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, fly home, record a show, and then get some well-needed rest. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to make with the posts about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings as we welcome October with open arms.
