THE VAGARIES OF LIFE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am in need of a good massage. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, I, BK, am in need of a good massage. Not that I’ll be having said massage in the near future as I have no time to be having said massage, but perhaps I’ll have one as my special birthday present this year. Until then, I shall just have to make do without a good massage. Additionally, I need a good haircut, but I simply don’t know when I’ll have time to get a good haircut. Oh, well, such are the vagaries of life. The Vagaries Of Life – that’s the title of my next novel. Where was I? I have no idea, actually. Speaking of vagaries, yesterday was a day that began early and ended late. That was very deep wasn’t it? That was very philosophical, wasn’t it? I got up early, but never had time to jog as I had a ton of e-mails to deal with, most of which had to do with Brain matters. After responding to those, I barely had enough time to get to the casting session on time. We had close to seventy people scheduled, all confirmed. Would you like to know how many showed up? Eighteen. Now, I don’t know about you, but I find that astonishing, and not in a good way. I find that typical of people today, however – not only do they not show up after they’ve confirmed, they don’t even have the courtesy to let us know. Since there were quite a few that were supposed to be there that were booked by agents, we have called the agents to tell them how unhappy we were and that we would never see those clients for any show that might come up in the future. Of the eighteen we saw, there were several good candidates, especially in the dancing and acting areas. I’m delighted with our choreographer, I must say – very nice fellow, great energy, and very positive. My kind of person. After the auditions, I had to do a quick errand and then hie myself to LACC for rehearsal. As if I wasn’t busy enough, the director of the show that opens in a week has been going mad trying to find the music to some lyrics in the script. Unfortunately, the lyrics are by the author of the play, and in the play’s original production, Harold Wheeler wrote some music. Well, the licensor doesn’t have it, no one could get hold of Mr. Wheeler, and they were out of time – so I wrote them a tune. So, tonight, after another long and busy day, I have to go to Mr. Grant Geissman’s home environment and record the piano track for the show. Rehearsal was fun – we worked on solos, duets, and trios today. After rehearsal, I was so hungry (hadn’t had time to eat anything all day), that I ventured over to Musso and Frank for a nice, comfy meal, which I needed, wanted and, frankly, deserved. After that, I came home to many e-mails, answered them, and then sat on my couch like so much fish.

Obviously, I didn’t have time to watch any motion pictures on DVD, but I did watch the Special Features on the Billy Wilder Speaks DVD – about an hour’s worth of outtake interviews that didn’t make the final film but which were very interesting.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must go get my beauty rest because, frankly, I’m starting to look like the vagaries of life.

Today is our second day of casting. There are another seventy people scheduled, but because of what happened today, I had our casting liaison send e-mails and/or make phone calls to each and every person, telling them what happened yesterday, and that we didn’t want a replay, and if they weren’t going to bother to show up to let us know. So, we’ll see how it goes. We also called back about eight people from yesterday’s session.

After the session, I head over to LACC for rehearsal (more solo, duet, and trio work, after a brief meeting with the full company). We’re only scheduled to work until seven, and then I’m off to Grant’s to record the little piano track. So, I’m hoping to be home no later than nine so I can relax and watch a DVD.

Now wait just a darned minute – let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the cheese slices and ham chunks, let’s all dance the Hora or the Swim, because today is dear reader Jed’s birthday. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to dear reader Jed. On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO DEAR READER JED!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, try to jog first thing in the morning, I must have a casting session, rehearse, record, and attend to other details. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s what is it, fish day – what are your favorite fish dishes, and provide recipes so we can all try them. Also, where have you had your finest fish dining experiences, restaurant-wise? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, as we all contemplate either our navels or the vagaries of life.
