PLOTZING

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I have just eaten a big heavy Mexican meal and I am ready to plotz. I ask you, where else on all the Internet can you read such a sentence? Nowhere, that’s where. These late-night meals are not good for me and I’m going to have to put the kibosh on them. Yes, Virginia, I am going to put the kibosh on them, whatever the HELL the kibosh is. Just look at that word – kibosh – it just sits there like so much fish without a care in the world. Anyway, I’m plotzing and must write these here notes and then get to bed so I can get my beauty sleep. Speaking of beauty sleep, yesterday I slept but the beauty part was not in evidence. I got up at eight, packaged up some items, then shipped said items, then came home and jogged and attended to some details that needed attending to. After that, I toddled off to LACC for our rehearsal and designer run-through. At rehearsal, I ran all of Alet Taylor’s scenes and we made some excellent progress. Then we took a dinner break, then did the run-through. Everyone is still getting used to the different energy needed for our regular theater, so I’m doing a lot of energy cheerleading. But, the run-through went very well, and the show is actually running just what it should be, time-wise. We’re finding out how the incidental music is going to work, and people are finding their way through the characters. I’ve adjusted a bit of staging, and the flow of the show is starting to gel. I gave a lot of notes after the run, and then we worked on a few things, adjusting positions for a couple of the big numbers and stuff like that. All in all, I was very pleased, and I think the designers were rather taken aback that we actually ran the entire show without stopping and that it looked completely together. And now, we’ve got three weeks from tomorrow until we open. After the rehearsal, I went out for a bite and then came home, where I didn’t even have time to sit on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I did not watch a motion picture on DVD, and let me tell you, I am falling behind on my DVD watching. I probably won’t get to watch a DVD until maybe Sunday, unless I can get home a bit earlier than I’ve been getting home. I’ve got Paul Newman movies to watch, Forbidden Planet to watch, Astaire and Rogers to watch, Gary Cooper to watch – I got me some watchin’ to do. But I cannot possibly watch whilst I am plotzing, which is currently what I am doing.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because the hour is late and I am fading fast, like a gazelle on Lithium.

I’m so tired I could eat a horse. No, that isn’t right. Why would I want to eat a horse if I’m tired? Oh, I remember – I’m so hungry I could eat a horse. But, I just ate a big Mexican meal so I’m not hungry so what the HELL am I going on about wanting to eat a horse. I’ve never wanted to eat a horse – the thought of that makes me want to vomit on the ground.

Today is going to be hectic and fun, not necessarily in that order. I have a bunch of stuff to do in the morning, and then we’re doing an afternoon with me at LACC – in the Drama Digest class. Our very own Mr. Nick Redman will be moderating and we’ll talk about my career highlights and lowlights, The Brain, and there will also be a Q&A towards the end. It’s open to anyone, so if any of our dear lurkers or readers would like to come, it’s from two o’clock to three o’clock in the Camino Theater at LACC. No reservations needed – just show up. After that, we have a production meeting, then rehearsal, then a run-through.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, jog, do stuff, take part in an afternoon of me, and then have a rehearsal and run-through. Today’s topic of discussion: When one is in school, one is made to read several required works of fiction – some are an ordeal to read, and some change your life. What are your favorite books from your high school book-reading assignments and what books that you had to read did you loathe? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we? I’ll just be plotzing like a gazelle eating a churro.
