November 30, 2006:

THE SCHEME OF THINGS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, holy moley on rye if it isn’t the last day of November. How did that happen? It seems like only yesterday it was the first day of November and now it is the last day of November and all I can say is that time flies when you’re timing flies. However, November went faster than the flies – I should know, I timed them both. November zoomed by like a gazelle having an affair with a water buffalo. But enough introductory comments. I’m done with the introductory comments because frankly or even stevely I am overtired and I cannot spend paragraphs writing archly because I must attempt to get a full eight hours of sleep before beginning a very busy day, said busy day being the last day of November. Do you know what that means? It means that this year is practically over. I just cannot wrap my mind around that, so instead I’ve wrapped my mind around some ham and cheese. A mind wrapped around ham and cheese makes a lovely mindwich. You know, if anyone has a clew as to what the HELL I’m going on about, don’t tell me. Speaking of a mindwich, yesterday was such a wonky day, starting with that whole smoke detector business. By the time I finally got an extra hour or two of sleep, I was hopelessly behind and didn’t get to several things I needed to get to because I had to be at LACC at noon rather than three, for our paper tech. That was long and boring but it was good that I was there because I helped clarify my needs and wants, and I simplified certain things. After those three hours I was already exhausted. Then, after much lateness on certain cast members parts, I blocked the curtain call of the show, then I worked on more individual scenes and musical numbers. Then we took our mandatory dinner break (what a waste of an hour THAT is), then we had our run-through. Act one was pretty sloppy and low energy, except for certain cast members who always step up to the plate – I can’t say enough about Merrill, who is always there, always playing the right show, and always a bundle of energy. Same with Cason Murphy, who is a student and who gives 1000 percent at every rehearsal and run-through. The second act went better, and we got out of there a half-hour early. I then ate some food and then had to do an errand before coming home. And then, of course, I had to sit down and write these here notes.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I’m so overtired I can’t even see straight. I see crooked and therefore if we don’t click on the Unseemly Button below the whole rest of this paragraph could end up crooked and we cannot have that, now can we?

Have I mentioned that it’s the last day of November? Do you know what that means in the scheme of things? In the scheme of things that means that tomorrow will be the first day of December. Isn’t that exciting? Isn’t that just too too? The first day of the last month of the year. A month of holiday cheer, and birthdays (mine included) and new musicals entitled The Brain From Planet X. In short, December will be a month to be reckoned with.

Today will be a day to be reckoned with, in the scheme of things. In the scheme of things, today I will be getting up early because I must do an early errand. Then, if I have time, I’ll do a quick jog, then shave and shower and be off to our casting session. After that, I’ll have other things to attend to, and then it’s rehearsal and run-through. I have given over the theater to the lighting people so we’re in our smaller rehearsal space all day today, then we’re back in the theater tomorrow all day.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do an early errand, jog, have a casting session, rehearse, and do a run-through, not to mention eat some foodstuffs at some point. Today’s topic of discussion: Many people have a love/hate relationship with Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber (I think he’s a Lord by now). So, what are your favorite Andrew Lloyd Webber songs (if any) and shows (if any) and what are your least-favorite songs and shows? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst we bid November a fond farewell and we welcome December with open arms.
