TOM TURKEY RAN AWAY BUT HE JUST CAME HOME

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it’s turkey lurkey time, tom turkey ran away but he just came home. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, it’s turkey lurkey time, and the errant and truant tom turkey ran away but he just came home. It’s turkey day here at haineshisway.com and we are going to have a cozy and warm Thanksgiving for one and all and also all and one. It is a time for eating turkey and stuffing and cranberries and mashed potatoes and yams and whatnot. I’m especially fond of whatnot, more so if it has whipped cream on it. But, before we eat our various and sundried turkeys let us talk about our pre-turkey day, which was, for example, yesterday. I woke up, took a very brisk jog, then toddled off to a morning meeting at Du-Par’s. I thought it would be a very brisk meeting but it turned out to be two hours long. I met with the woman who’s made a documentary about the kids who were in Annie over the years. We spoke of many things, and I’m really anxiously looking forward to viewing the program today. She’s a very sweet gal and we had a good time at the meeting – just clicked right away. I’m not certain where the topics of the meeting will lead, but we shall see what we shall see and what we shall see we shall see. In other words, we shall see what we shall see. After the meeting, I was in a rush to get other things done, and then I toddled off to LACC for two run-throughs. The Brain missed most of the first run-through and poor Adriana had to fill in for him until he arrived. The first run-through started somewhat slowly but about fifteen minutes in suddenly things clicked and a lot of it was very fresh and very funny and the actors could really feel that energy, which was grand. We took a break, and then did the evening run-through where a lot of what had worked during the afternoon was either forgotten or changed. So, most of my very strong notes were about consistency and that when something works and is very funny that they need to lock those moments and keep them consistent or build on them, but not change them so that they don’t resemble what worked. It’s not easy to do this, but I am maniacal about it, because comedy timing is so difficult and when something finally works you just don’t want it any other way. We’re still feeling our way in certain musical numbers in terms of tempos, which sometimes feel a bit slow to me. It’s a very delicate line and again, I’m maniacal about consistency. Our sound gal was there for the evening run-through, so that was good – she took lots of notes, and we’ll be doing some pre-recording early next week for a couple of voice-overs. She also has to create a bunch of sound effects. The set moves were much smoother last night, but we still have to work on a couple of them that aren’t doing exactly what I’d like. I may also add some crossovers to help smooth things out. And now, the company has four days off, and I’ve asked them to enjoy themselves, to relax, but not to forget the work we’ve been doing and to run things either physically or in their heads. Hopefully, everyone will do so so that when we come back on Monday we’ll be prepared to do two excellent run-throughs. Then I had some dinner, then came home and sat in front of my laptop like so much fish.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because tom turkey ran away but he just came home.

Today, I have no plans at all, what with it being Thanksgiving. I will, of course, give thanks for all of life’s bounties and pleasures, not necessarily in that order. Then, in the late afternoon, Miss Adriana Patti, her mother, and former dear reader Hisaka will be bringing Thanksgiving dinner to the home environment. Aside from that, I shall be watching DVDs all the livelong day and night.

Tomorrow, I’m seeing Light In The Piazza – perhaps seeing it live will make me enjoy it better than what I saw on television. Over the weekend, I have to do a newspaper interview for The Brain and maybe have some supper on Saturday night, but other than those few things, I shall do nothing but relax and just when I think I can relax no more I shall relax again.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, jog, watch DVDs, eat turkey, and watch DVDs. Today’s topic of discussion: What is the most memorable Thanksgiving you’ve ever had? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, and do remember that tom turkey ran away but he just came home.
