DON WE NOW OUR GAY APPAREL

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, Christmas is approaching and I think it is high time to don we now our gay apparel. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, it is high time to don we now our gay apparel. If you don’t want to don your gay apparel, perhaps you can fred your gay apparel. Just do something with your gay apparel, will you? For example, I shall don my gay apparel right this very minute – back in a moment.

There, I have now donned my gay apparel and am wearing a tight pink T-shirt with a sparkly shirt over it, tight satin pants, and my kick me pumps. I look fabulously fabulous. Speaking of fabulously fabulous, yesterday was an interesting day. It started off with me waking up – that was interesting. Then I jogged, packaged up some orders, answered a whole slew of e-mails, then went to LACC to do a presentation of our opening number for their Board of Trustees. After that, a few of us went for a bite to eat, and then we came back for the evening performance. The problem with taking three days off in a college theater is that others are in the theater and things get screwed with – in this case, our sound person had to go around re-plugging in things that had gotten un-plugged, plus our musical director had taken his keyboards home, and those had to be plugged in and tested, and there wasn’t enough time to do so in any meaningful way prior to the start of the show. I was assured everything was working correctly, but the minute the opening number started I knew we were in deep merde. The beautiful band sound we’d worked so hard to get was nowhere in evidence – it was replaced by absolute mush – no definition, too little keyboard one, so much keyboard two that it was distorting, blah, blah, blah. At intermission, I had strong words with our mixer and she once again used her standard “I’m troubleshooting” line – as it turned out, there’d been a cable problem with synth two, and some emergency patching had been done and some input was incorrect between the two keyboards and that was causing all the problems. Act two was better, but not perfect, but after the show everything got sorted out and it should be better for tonight’s show. Other than that and a pretty small house, the show went very smoothly with some excellent work from the cast. The tech end also went the smoothest it’s gone, with the exception of a backdrop that got hung up on the bandstand – they need to weight the bottom of it or it will happen again. I’m a bit disconcerted at the size of our houses, but I’m told they’ll be better from now until the end of the run – I hope they’re right. After the show, I grabbed a sandwich, then came home and sat at my laptop like so much fish.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below whilst we all don our gay apparel.

Today I must ship some packages as early in the morning as I can, and I must try and get some Christmas cards printed up quickly. I have some important errands to do, and, if I have time mid-afternoon, I may try and watch a motion picture on DVD. And then it will be the evening performance of The Brain. Some fun people will be coming over the next few performances, including Mr. Walter Willison, who is flying in from New York just to see the show on closing night.

I guess I may as well officially announce to you dear readers, that on Monday we’ll be going into the studio to make the cast album of The Brain From Planet X. We’ll record all the tracks, and the vocals of Kevin, Lauren, Alet, and Merrill. The rest of the vocals will be done on Wednesday evening at six, as that’s the first time the student actors will be available (they’re in the midst of finals). I’m very excited to be able to do the album. I’ll also mention that we’re videotaping both Saturday performances, but probably not for release – we just need a really good, professionally shot and edited, DVD to be able to send to producers who couldn’t get here to see the show. I won’t be able to mix the CD until after the first of the year, but I’m hoping to have it out by the end of January or the first of February as the first Kritzerland release of the New Year. Remember, you heard it here first.

Quick – let us all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let us all break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, let us all dance the Hora or the Waltizing Matilda, because today is the birthday of the Boy From Oz himself, dear reader Tomovoz. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to the Boy From Oz himself, dear reader Tomovoz. On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO THE BOY FROM OZ HIMSELF, DEAR READER TOMOVOZ!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, jog, do errands, ship, relax, and then attend tonight’s performance of The Brain. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your all-time favorite Christmas songs and favorite renditions of said songs. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, and let’s have some lovely photographs of we in our gay apparel.
