SHAKING IT UP

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I feel we should do something different in today’s notes. I have no idea what that should be, but I, for one, want to see something different in these here notes because we need to shake things up around these here parts. I think we need something radical or maybe even something radial, like a tire. Maybe that’s what we need – a new tire. Maybe the tread around here is worn. Maybe some radical radials are in order. This is one of the worst analogies I’ve ever heard, I must say. If this is something new, something different, I say out with the new and in with the old. What else can we do to shake things up? Perhaps I can tell the story of The Randy Vicar and The Chocolate Factory. That’s a lively little tale. I don’t know, I’m finding there’s a certain stasis around here. Frankly, I’ve had with the certain stasis. Let’s see – what if we all suddenly broke into a chorus of Pick A Little, Talk A Little? That would liven things up, wouldn’t it? Oh, I don’t know, perhaps I’m beating a dead horse. I often enjoy beating a dead horse, but only after I beat a dead herring. Speaking of a dead herring, yesterday was a very busy day. I woke up early, dealt with some e-mail correspondence, and then had to have a breakfast meeting with Miss Joan Ryan. It was a very good meeting, and we’re now going to start working in earnest. After the meeting, I went to our first rehearsal for the kids show – basically I just said hello, made a little speech, and then the choreographer took over, and I headed over to Vinnie’s to record the Brain vocals and a few pickups. That went very well, and we finished everything (including some synth fixes and adding a real cello to one song) in two hours. After that, Miss Adriana Patti (who is assisting me once again) and I grabbed a bite to eat, then she came back to the home environment and said she’d like to see a movie. And so, we watched a motion picture that she’d never seen – Barefoot In The Park.

I do like to watch Barefoot In The Park once every year or so, and it’s a movie I’m very fond of. It’s sweet, it’s still howlingly funny, and it has completely winning performances by all of its cast. Mr. Robert Redford is so charming and so lovable and so funny that it’s amazing it took another few years for him to really become a huge star (with Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid). Miss Jane Fonda has never been more adorable than in this film. Even Mr. Charles Boyer, who I normally don’t care for, is charming. Herb Edelman is hilarious as the phone man, but the film’s best performance comes from Mildred Natwick as Miss Fonda’s mother. What perfect timing – she and Mr. Redford had, of course, played the show on Broadway, but she’s fresh and her line readings and expressions are so unique, you’d think she was making it up on the spot. It was the first film for director Gene Saks, and he just keeps it simple and clean. We could certainly use a new, improved transfer of the film – the colors are fine, but it’s very hazy and washed out and not up to today’s standards.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below whilst I try to figure out what else we can do to shake these here notes up.

I can’t think of anything else – I’m too tired so I’m afraid any shaking up of the notes will have to happen on another day, although if another analogy like the worn tires comes up, I’ll have to run with it.

Today, I have way too much to do. I have to ship out several large packages and a few small ones. I have to attend to some things that need attending to, and then I have to go to Vinnie’s to hear the pre-mixes and do any fixing we want to do. I’m still hoping we can be through with everything by the beginning of next week.

I know – why don’t we all do the Lambada (The Forbidden Dance)? We haven’t done that in ages and that could be just what we need to perk these here notes up. Yes, the Lambada (The Forbidden Dance) – that’s the ticket. Of course, I have no idea how to DO the Lambada (The Forbidden Dance), so if anyone out there knows, please demonstrate immediately.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, jog, write, ship, mix, and sup. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your all-time favorite wacky dance crazes? Breakdancing? The Lambada (The Forbidden Dance)? The Twist? And which wacky dance crazes have you actually done? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst we continue to shake it up.
