RUNNING AMOK

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must write these here notes in a hurry for she of the Evil Eye will be here first thing in the morning. So, I shall speed through these here notes like a gazelle running amok. Speaking of amok, yesterday was a day that ran amok. For example, I got up quite early and got right on the phone with Mitsubishi about my TV problems. Someone in India helped me troubleshoot, and we did everything to get the new lamp to work, but the new lamp stubbornly refused to do its job. So, I then had to call GE and get them to book an appointment for today for a service technician to come out and troubleshoot, and hopefully if he finds the lamp defective, he will have a replacement. Both the new lamp and the TV are under warranty and it will now no longer cost me money. I just hope it gets fixed today. After dealing with all that, I went to Von’s and got a very nice lady in the deli department and she helped me decide on what and how much food for the partay, and then she said she’d handle everything and it would all be ready at four-thirty. I did buy all the liquid refreshment and the plates and utensils and got that out of the way. I then came home, wrote a bit, then picked up one of the errant and truant packages that had finally arrived. I came back home, wrote a little more, answered some e-mails, then shaved and showered and got ready for the partay. At four-thirty, I moseyed over to Von’s and picked up all the food, loaded it into my motor car, and off I went to LACC.

I arrived at about five (no traffic at all getting there – very unusual). I then ran amok, unloading food and drink and, thanks to Miss Patti, getting it all set up on the stage of the Camino Theater. It was quite a nice spread and looked lovely. We set up a CD player and a DVD/TV player to run the rough cut of act one. We finished setting up about an hour ahead of time, then just hung out until the party began. The first person arrived fifteen minutes early, and we unwrapped all the food right then. From that point on it was a steady stream of people right through to the end of the party. A good deal of the cast was there, including Cason Murphy, Kevin Spirtas, Egbert Bernard (the Brain), Benjamin Clark, and lots of the supporting players. We had the CD playing for the first half-hour, then started the video – everyone was very taken with the footage and it got lots of laughs, as if they were seeing it for the first time, which many of the cast were, since they’d never really seen what the show looked like with the sets and lighting all working. Everyone who attended the party got a complimentary CD. The food was eaten by one and all and also all and one. The desserts were quite popular, too (all cheesecakes). There were lots of fun folks in attendance – actress and MBarnum person Diana Darrin, who brought her son, who apparently, as a child, starred in Copperfield on Broadway. Doug Haverty, Adryan Russ, comedienne and writer Diz White, several press people, our publicist – all in all, I think we had close to sixty people there, a very nice crowd. The party seemed to wind down by nine (even though we were scheduled until ten), so we wrapped everything up and that was that. After we left, I found out a few people, including the lovely Rick Starr and Michael Lavine had showed up after ten. Oh, well. All in all, it was a lovely evening and a lovely way to officially launch the CD.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below as I need to run amok in the next section.

Pardon me while I run amok. Have you ever run amok? If so, how did amok feel about it? Where was I? Oh, yes, she of the Evil Eye will be here early and I must get my beauty sleep.

Today, Mr. TV Repair Man will be here between one and five, hopefully closer to one. The rest of my day will all be dependent on that, but I do intend to get another two or three pages written.

Tomorrow, of course, is our Annual haineshisway.com Oscar Bash, and for anyone who hasn’t attended one of these, it is THE place to be for the Oscars – the best partay on all the Internet. Last year, we had our best posting day ever, with over 1200 posts. It was beyond fun – it was the best Oscar time anywhere. The activities start with the pre-show, and we comment on everything from faux pas fashion attire, to awful behavior, to each and every award, as well as how the show itself is. So, be there or be round – you won’t want to miss one action-packed second of our Annual Oscar Bash. I, for one, cannot wait.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, write, wait for Mr. TV Repair Man, do an errand or three, time permitting, and then must sit on my couch like so much fish, hopefully watching the big TV – please send excellent vibes and xylophones to the bit TV so that we can watch the Oscars come tomorrow. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your Oscar predictions? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, and I shall now run amok before hitting the road to dreamland.
