THE WAY OF THE WORLD

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, yesterday we had short notes and today we shall have long notes. Such is the way of the world, notes-wise. One day short, next day long. Obla-di-obla-da. Now that I’ve said that, of course, I have absolutely nothing to say. Such is the way of the world. Damn it all, man, I do have things to say and damn it all, man, I will say them. Such is the way of the world. Speaking of the way of the world, yesterday was a most interesting day. I don’t really remember why, but it was most interesting nonetheless. For example, I got up. That was most interesting. I then had to package up a nice large order to ship overseas, and then I went and shipped said package (and a few others). I then did some errands, and then I came home and began writing. I got a nice amount of writing done – finishing another chapter, and began a new one. I ate some foodstuffs and I also relaxed a little, which was nice. All in all, it was a most pleasantly pleasant day.

Last night, I managed to watch three count them three motion pictures on DVD. The first motion picture on DVD was entitled Robert et Robert, un film de Claude Lelouch. As most of you know, I am a big fan of Mr. Lelouch’s work, so I always enjoy seeing the films of his that I haven’t seen (he’s made a LOT of films). Robert et Robert is slight, but extremely warm and funny and filled with Mr. Lelouch’s unique heart. The story follows two men named Robert who meet at a computer dating service. One is a sad sack, overweight, and shy as can be, the other is a prissy, difficult, and caustic taxi driver. There’s not much plot, but the actors are wonderful, as is the music by Lelouch regular Francis Lai. A lovely little slice of Lelouch pie. I then watched the second motion picture on DVD, which was entitled Attention, Bandits, un film de Claude Lelouch. Once again, I was completely taken with the film – a wonderful movie about a father and daughter, a robbery, betrayal, murder, revenge, and love. I sat entranced from beginning to end – once again, a perfect cast and wonderful music from Mr. Lai. Sadly, these films are not out in the US – these DVDs come from Germany, but have the original French language and English subtitles. I then watched the third motion picture on DVD, which was entitled Homicidal, directed by William Castle. Certainly, it’s Mr. Castle’s best directorial effort, and the film is sublimely wacky and off-the-wall. I won’t go into the plot (it involves a young man just back from Denmark with his new wife) because to do so would spoil the fun. Jean Arless gives a remarkably good performance, and the rest of the cast is fine. The film features an interesting score by the great Hugo Friedhofer. The DVD is also from Germany – the film, of course, is out in the US, but full screen rather than the proper 1:85 ratio, which the import DVD is. That said, they’ve zoomed in the image so that the top of the 1:85 frame is too tight – but the film looks great in its intended ratio, that caveat aside. It also features the “Fright Break.” I also began watching the Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour, which was really the hour-long version of I Love Lucy in its final seasons. I began by watching an episode with Tallulah Bankhead as the guest star. While the hour-long format sometimes feels padded, Miss Bankhead is hilarious in the show and I found myself laughing out loud rather boisterously on several occasions. The transfer looks great, too. I’m watching another episode now that features Fred MacMurray, and it’s equally as funny.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because, after all, clicking the Unseemly Button is the way of the world.

I forgot to mention that I ended up bailing on the work session with David Wechter and the poker game, because I was very much in my writing mode and I didn’t want to interrupt it.

Today, this morning to be exact, I’ll be doing an telephonic interview with someone who contacted me via e-mail. He’s writing a book on frequent guest stars of the 70s and he’s asked me to share some of my memories, which I shall happily do. Then I’ll attend to some errands and then do some writing, and then toddle off to a birthday dinner.

Now wait just a darned minute. We’d better put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, we’d better break out the cheese slices and ham chunks, we’d better dance the Hora or the cha-cha-cha, because today is the actual birthday of dear reader Adriana Patti. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to dear reader Adriana Patti, who is nineteen years of age. On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO DEAR READER ADRIANA PATTI, WHO IS NINETEEN YEARS OF AGE!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do an interview, write, drive about in my motor car, and celebrate the birthday of Miss Patti. Today’s topic of discussion: Camping and hiking – two things I know nothing about. What are your favorite camping adventures you’ve been on, as well as your favorite hiking adventures? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, for that is the way of the world.
