YOU KNOW THE DRILL

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, you know the drill – I must write these here notes in a hurry because she of the Evil Eye will be here bright and early and I must get my beauty sleep, which I really need, having not gotten enough sleep this week. Actually, DO you know the drill? Does the drill know you? If you do know the drill, do you speak often? Do you ever drill the drill on what the drill has been doing? I, for one, know the drill and the drill and I have been seen having late night suppers by candlelight. What the HELL am I talking about? I’m just a rambling rose, aren’t I? Rambling Rose – that would have been an excellent song for the musical Gypsy. Speaking of Gypsy, yesterday was one of those days where I was like the Eveready Bunny – I just kept going. I first woke up at five in the morning. I finally went back to bed at six and managed to get three more hours of sleep, but I was slightly groggy all the livelong day and night. I had to do two annoying errands in the morning, then I wrote a page, then I had to immediately toddle off to a lunch meeting. It was a nice meeting with a nice gentleman. Then I came home and wrote five more pages, then toddled off to an afternoon meeting with the delightfully delightful Miss Susan Watson. After that, I came home and wrote another page (total of seven – very pleased). I’m sure I’ll have to smooth out yesterday’s seven pages, but I was very happy with them or at least their intention. I had several lengthy telephonic conversations and I didn’t really get to sit on my couch like so much fish until nearly seven o’clock.

Last night, I watched a motion picture on DVD entitled Rocky Balboa. I don’t know what number Rocky it is (6 – 7?), but the fact is I’ve only ever seen Rocky I and II. Rocky Balboa is basically a retread of the original Rocky. It’s not as good, of course, part of the problem being that Mr. Stallone is not as good a director as John Avildsen. Mr. Avildsen knew how to be simple and to just let the story unfold. Mr. Stallone, for the first half, tries to do that, but can’t help indulging in a little “hip” filmmaking. But, during the fight, he resorts to every “now” film technique, and it’s appalling. It totally takes you out of the movie and therefore lessens the emotional impact the fight should have. But, despite its obvious faults, I really sort of enjoyed it and it was ultimately a satisfying viewing experience. Stallone the actor is very good, as is the rest of the cast. Bill Conti’s score has a lot of the original Rocky in it, plus some very nice new cues. The transfer is excellent.

Well, you know the drill – why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because my eyelids are drooping – actually my entire body is drooping, which is what happens when you get to be my age.

Today, I shall drive about in my motor car whilst she of the Evil Eye makes the home environment sparkle, then I shall return and write at least three pages, maybe a few more than that, although I’m very ahead this week, having written close to thirty pages in five day, which is about as much as I’ve ever done in that time frame. After that, I haven’t really decided, but the day and evening is mine to do whatever I please with.

Tomorrow, I must go into Ye Olde Storage Facility to pull some music for my various and sundried gals. Other than that, I don’t have a single thing planned, and I’m jiggy with that. Of course, I will write a few pages, but that’s the only work I’ll do, because I have a busier than busy week coming up, with lots of meetings and rehearsals and meals.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, write, jog, write, sup, and perhaps watch a few DVDs. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your all-time favorite sports-related films? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we? Well, you know the drill.
