CUT ME SOME SLACK

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, another week has come and gone, not necessarily in that order. I say loudly and clearly, “Weeks, cut me some slack already.” These weeks are keeping me tightly wound, like a Swiss watch movement, which is better than any other kind of Swiss movement, if you get my coprophiliac drift. Do you know that Microsoft Word does not recognize the word coprophiliac? Someone is amiss at Microsoft Word. Or perhaps, someone is amister at Microsoft Word. In any case, “Weeks, cut me some slack.” When one is tightly wound like a Swiss watch movement, then one needs some slack, especially if one is wearing slacks. You know, I have just realized that I don’t know what the HELL I’m talking about. Of course, that’s never stopped me before, so on I go, like a gazelle in eating a puff pastry. Speaking of a puff pastry, yesterday was a non-stop day. For example, after only five hours of sleep I had to get up and attend a morning breakfast meeting. It was a nice meeting. I then packaged up a few orders, but did not have time to ship them. I then toddled off to an afternoon meeting with the head of the Theatre Academy and the president of the LACC foundation. It was an interesting meeting, and there will be a couple more very soon. That meeting lasted a bit longer than it was supposed to, so I had to hurry back to the Valley to sup with Mr. Cason Murphy and his ever-lovin’ Heather. We had quite a sparkling time. We laughed and laughed and just when we thought we could laugh no more, we laughed again. We supped at Louise’s Trattoria in the City of Studio and the food was excellently excellent, as was the company. Miss Heather looked very pretty, and so did Mr. Cason. Miss Heather? Mr. Cason? What am I, Romper Room all of a sudden? Cut me some slack, baby, cut me some slack. I then came home and sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched part one of the TCM “documentary” on Marlon Brando. I had no idea this thing was in two parts, so I didn’t TIVO part two. There was some interesting footage, and they interviewed good people, but I’m just so bored of these things and the way in which they’re produced. And Robert Osborne trumpets the director, Leslie Grieff as if that’s somehow meaningful. It’s not. Certainly there were interesting things in it, and I’m sure I’d like to see part two if they ever show it again and if they actually let people KNOW it’s in two parts. It did make me want to watch On The Waterfront again, and also One Eyed Jacks.

Well, why don’t we all cut me some slack and click on the Unseemly Button below because there are things to do, places to go, and people to see, not necessarily in that order.

I have another morning meeting, this one at the home environment. That shouldn’t last too long, and then I must ship the packages, and then I’ve got an early afternoon meeting with a singing duo, and then the rest of the day is mine all mine.

Tomorrow is a storage day – I have to go to both storage facilities and lift many boxes to find several things that need finding. I do get bored easily, so I try to move as quickly as possible. I have to begin finding as many charts as I can for our benefit, because there are two songwriters were honoring and I’ve recorded lots and lots of their songs, so we’re going to try and use as many of the existing arrangements and orchestrations as we can.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, jog, meet, do errands, meet, and then stop and smell the roses or the coffee or the Swiss movement. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/video player? I’ll start – CD, Georgia Stitt’s This Ordinary Thursday. I worked with Miss Stitt when she musical directed After The Fair, which I recorded. Also, Dimitri Tiomkin’s score to Lost Horizon, which I don’t like as much as Burt Bacharach’s score to Lost Horizon. DVD, Good Neighbor Sam. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst everyone cuts everyone some slack.
