BUFFALO WINGS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, my name is BK and I have been on a buffalo wings kick. Each day, I buy some buffalo wings and kick them to and fro and it’s ever so much fun. Yes, Virginia, I, BK, have become addicted to buffalo wings. I have buffalo wings on my back. It began over the weekend when I ordered some buffalo wings at Mel’s Diner. I had them leave the hot sauce on the side and I had them cooked to a fare-thee-well. The only other time I’d ever had buffalo wings was at Koo Koo Roo, where they were never more than adequate, taste-wise. Well, these buffalo wings at Mel’s were superb, tasty as all get out, and I think we all know how tasty all get out is. So, last night, I had buffalo wings at Jerry’s – not quite as tasty, but excellent nonetheless. And now, I’ve got buffalo wings fever and I dream about them and need them. I’m on the buffalo wings prowl and I shan’t rest until I’ve tried them hither and thither and also yon. I don’t love the hot sauce and I don’t love the bleu cheese dressing (the ranch dressing at Jerry’s was better), but I do love them buffalo wings unadorned. My goodness, I am going on about buffalo wings, aren’t I? Speaking of buffalo wings, yesterday was a rollercoaster of a day. For example, I got up, packaged up a slew of packages, then had an early morning meeting at Du-Par’s. After the meeting, I read through the Brain changes, made some notes, and then sent off some important e-mails. I then shipped the packages, and then went to rehearsal with Miss Joan Ryan. We only got through act one today (and a couple of act two numbers) because I had to run a few things to get them right, staging-wise, and performance-wise. After the rehearsal, I had to mosey on home, do some more work, and then I had to mosey on over to Jerry’s Deli to have a meeting with someone named Jerry. As you know, I had the buffalo wings (and some rye bread and butter). After that, I finally came home, where I had to do some more work, and then I finally sat on the couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched one count them one motion picture on DVD entitled The Stranger, a film of Orson Welles, starring Orson Welles, Edward G. Robinson, and Miss Loretta Young. The Stranger is not usually thought of as Mr. Welles at the top of his game, director-wise, but I really like the film a lot. The opening sequences are classic Welles, and just the whole feel of the film really works nicely throughout. The acting is terrific from all concerned. The Stranger has been in the public domain for years, which is why there have been so many DVD releases (and VHS), all of which are substandard and are dupes of dupes of dupes. The Roan release was better by a little bit, but not really acceptable. In fact, there has never been an acceptable home video release of The Stranger – until now. Thanks to MGM, we have a pretty grand transfer that looks 1000% better than any other version. It’s got great contrast, is sharp, and very pleasing. The only time it’s less than great is, of course, in the opticals – Mr. Welles shoots very long takes in this film and if there’s a dissolve from one scene to the other, the opticals sometimes last up to three minutes, as they did not cut them in short (a lot of films used to cut in opticals short, meaning that instead of an entire shot before the optical being an optical, the shot would run its course, then one frame before the optical would begin, they’d cut it in right there, resulting in a slight bump in quality, but much preferable to having a long optical of lesser quality. They’d then cut out of the optical one frame after it was complete, again resulting in a slight bump. But, this transfer of The Stranger is really kind of a miracle, and I’m thrilled to have it and send many kudos to MGM.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I have a very long day tomorrow and I need my beauty sleep so that I may dream of buffalo wings. Or are they Buffalo wings? Do they come from Buffalo? They’re not made from buffalo, so what in HELL does buffalo wings refer to? Now, let’s all sing – “Buffalo wings won’t you come out tonight, won’t you come out tonight, won’t you come out tonight.”

Today is going to be a long, long day, which will lead to a long, long evening. I’ll be leaving at eight-thirty and will not return until eleven-thirty. I may decide to bring my laptop with me so that I can at least post during the day, should they have wireless at the recording studio. I will be supervising a ten o’clock to five o’clock recording session with Miss Lynda Carter. Our very own Vinnie will be with me, and hopefully it will all run smooth as silk, although the people involved are not used to recording quickly and getting through the day, which is why I was asked by Miss Carter’s manager to supervise. I’ve never met Miss Carter, but I’m looking forward to working with her and being of whatever help I can be.

Directly after the rehearsal, I’ll grab a bite to eat (buffalo wings, anyone?), and then be on my way to a four-hour band rehearsal with Miss Ryan. We’ll run everything once for the band, then run the entire show. After that, I shall return to the home environment. On breaks at the session, I’ll try to get some proofing done, too.

Tomorrow, will be the exact same sort of day, and then in the evening will be doing Joan’s show for a small invited audience. If anyone would like to attend here on the West Coast, just shoot me an e-mail.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, supervise a recording session, eat, have a long band rehearsal, and also do some proofing, if possible. Today’s topic of discussion: We’ve done it long ago, but what are your favorite appetizers and finger foods – the ones you’re totally in love with, and what are some appetizers you absolutely abhor? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst we entertain thoughts of buffalo wings unadorned.
