LIVE FROM THE FABULOUS SUNSET STRIP

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I have decided to write these here notes live on location from SIR rehearsal studios on the fabulous Sunset Strip. Right now I am nauseous. Perhaps it was the Astro Burger I had for lunch. Perhaps it was the zucchini fries I had with the Astro Burger. Perhaps it was the bacon on the Astro Burger I had for lunch. Perhaps it was the secret white sauce that I had with the zucchini fries I had for lunch. Perhaps it was the three bite-size Milky Ways I had after the Astro Burger, zucchini fries and white sauce for lunch. Perhaps it was the Munchies Totally Ranch chips I had when I arrived at SIR rehearsal studios on the fabulous Sunset Strip. I suspect the latter although it could be the former. Whether the former or the latter or even the latter or the former, the fact is I am nauseous. Speaking of nauseous, yesterday was a long, long day but, I must say, a pretty fun one. I got up early, answered some e-mails, and then was on my way to Conway Studios to record a Lynda Carter album. I arrived at nine, an hour before the start time. I met arranger/conductor Johnny Harris and his son, both very nice chaps. I was not familiar with Mr. Harris as an arranger, but I certainly was familiar with him as a film composer, and I really like his work. Vinnie was there and on top of things. Just before ten, Miss Carter arrived and was gracious and very sweet and a lot of fun. After a very slow start, we got in our groove and by lunch we were right on schedule and actually a bit ahead. I kept the mood light and fun, as is my wont and we were all laughing and everything was very relaxed. Lunch was excellent, even though I’m nauseous right now. We wrapped the horns thirty minutes early, and the strings twenty minutes early, and ended the day with some guitar fixes. After that, I killed some time by going to Amoeba, and then I arrived at SIR rehearsal studios where we began the long task of going through all the numbers with the bass and drums. Of course, I’m talking as if this were in the past tense, when I’m still here and we’re still rehearsing. Yes, Virginia, we’re coming to you Live From The Fabulous Sunset Strip. We’ll be done in about an hour and then I shall be on my way home and the good news is that the notes will be written and I can get them posted on time. Isn’t that exciting? Isn’t that just too too?

Of course, I had no time to watch a motion picture on DVD, even though I have many to watch, including a new region 2 DVD of Things To Come, which apparently is much better quality than all previous transfers, and this version is the longest the film has been since its premiere, as the negative was lost and the film had been cut at some point. I’m looking forward to watching it and a bunch of other DVDs come Thursday night. By then, I should also have the new Criterion DVD of Billy Wilder’s Ace In The Hole.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I’m nauseous and coming to you Live From The Fabulous Sunset Strip.

Today will be another very, very long day. I have our second Lynda Carter session, which will last until five, and then we have a Joan Ryan performance at SIR rehearsal studios on the fabulous Sunset Strip. We’re having about twenty people in so we can get some reaction to the show. If any of you West Coast dear readers or lurkers want to attend just drop me an e-mail at bruce@haineshisway.com.

And then Thursday will be a catch up day for me or, at the very least, a ketchup day. I do have to do a lot of work, including my part of the Brain rewrite, and I have to do many errands, and I think I have a dinner meeting, but I’ll be able to relax a little, too, so that will be good.

Friday, we’ll have a Joan run-through, but most of the day is mine and I will revel in it, and it’s also, I believe, the Hollywood Collector’s Show, which I, of course, will visit.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a recording session, have a run-through of Joan’s show for some folks, and that’s about it. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, as we end these here notes which have come to you Live From The Fabulous Sunset Strip.
