THE ROLLING STONE GATHERS NO MOSS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, do you know what thought just went through the windmills of my mind? Of course you don’t, so I shall tell you what thought just went through the windmills of my mind, for why should I withhold such things from the likes of you dear readers? The thought that just went through the windmills of my mind was: The rolling stone gathers no moss. Why would that thought go through the windmills of my mind, just out of the blue? Not out of the red, mind you, or even the beige, but out of the blue? But there it was, just going through the windmills of my mind like a loose filling. The rolling stone gathers no moss. I must say, that is one of the stupidest sayings I’ve ever heard. I happened to roll a stone the other day and you know what – it gathered some moss, so that puts the lie to THAT saying. Not only that, but the moss also gathered a rolling stone, just to be contrary. Where was I? Oh, yes, the rolling stone gathers no moss, which is, if you ask me, a load of hooey from start to finish and also from finish to start. Speaking of a rolling stone gathering no moss, yesterday was a day that gathered no moss. I got up early, made telephonic calls, answered e-mails, packaged up some more packages for shipping, did errands, prepped for a meeting, shipped a whole slew of packages, picked up a package, prepped some more and then headed off to the meeting.

Last night, we had a general meeting of the alumni association. All of fifteen people showed up to show their support, while the rest of our august organization couldn’t be bothered to get off their complacent butt cheeks, which is sadly typical of these things. We’re actually trying to do something that will have great benefits for them, but they are so used to this organization being so inactive for so long perhaps they don’t believe it. Despite the low turnout, those who were there wanted to be there, and my spiel went over very well. I outlined the point of our organization, and our goals, and I was very specific about everything. We want to have everyone on our LACCTAA mailing list become dues-paying members again. And I also want to encourage anyone else who is interested in us to become dues-paying members. So, for any West Coast lurkers and/or dear readers, I’d encourage you to do so, for dues-paying members will receive nice discounts all over town, for restaurants, films, bookstores and whatever else we come up with. And dues-paying members will also have first crack at reservations for any LACCTAA master class, seminar, lecture or event. I know it’s going to be a long slow haul with the complacent people who’d rather sit home than get off their butt cheeks, but in the end, if what I want to happen, happens, then we’ll suddenly become hip and as soon as that factor is factored in, all the complacent people will suddenly want to be part of it all. Meanwhile, we got a treasurer, and had quite a few of those in attendance sign up for various committees, which will be very helpful. Everyone is now on the prowl to get people off their complacent butt cheeks to join up and not just be lethargic, energyless people sitting on their collective couches like so much fish. After the meeting, I joined Mr. Cason Murphy, his ever-lovin’ Heather, and LACCTAA member Miss Adriana Patti for supper at Genghis Cohen. The food was, as always, excellent, except for the Schezuan green beans, which were not the same as they usually are, and not nearly as good. We had the added bonus of the rock group Ripley singing in the music room off the main dining room. Ripley, of course, is Alice Ripley’s rock group, so we got to visit with her and her ever-lovin’ Shannon. We had a splendidly splendid time, and we laughed and laughed and just when we thought we could laugh no more, we laughed again.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because this section of the notes is actually starting to gather some moss and that is most unseemly.

Today there will be much more Brain work to do, more people to hire, more details to attend to. It’s great having our general manager who is now dealing with all the NYMF paperwork and that sort of stuff. At noon I have a meeting, then a rehearsal directly after that, and then a work session with Mr. David Wechter, to discuss our new project. So, it’s a nice, full day and evening with nary a moment for relaxation.

Tomorrow, I have another meeting, another rehearsal, more Brain work, and then the rescheduled dinner with Miss Liz Larsen and her ever-lovin’ Sal Viviano in the City of Culver. Thursday and Friday is more of the same, but Friday also includes a meeting with Mr. Charles Fox, which I’m very much looking forward to.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do Brain work, hire people, meet, eat, rehearse, meet, and eat. Today’s topic of discussion: What is the most interesting organization or group or club you ever belonged to? What made it interesting and why did it work so well? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst we all get a rolling stone and watch it gather some moss.
