A NEW DO

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must write these here notes in a hurry, not because she of the Evil Eye is coming (she’s not), but because I, BK, must get up bright and early and get my do done by Teddy. I must have a doable do for my long stay in New York, New York. One simply cannot have a don’t when one should have a do. So, I shall have a new do and there are no two or even five ways about it. The do will be done and the done will be do and when people see me on the street, post do-being-done, they will wolf-whistle and say shooby-dooby-do, BK, or they will sing Do Do Do about my do. What the HELL am I talking about? What’s with all these do’s? That is far too many do’s for one paragraph and I shall dispense with the do’s until my do is done and then we can talk about the do all the livelong day and night, and my do will get its due. Speaking of due, yesterday was, despite no real news, a pleasantly pleasant day in which things went pleasantly. For example, I got up. That was pleasant. I had to answer some e-mails and telephonic calls, and then I had a jog, and then I toddled off to a lovelier than lovely lunch meeting with our very own Terry Trotter. I’ve added him to our roster of performers for the fundraiser, which I think will be unique and fun. After luncheon, I had to do a few errands and whatnot, I took my clothes to the dry cleaners, and then I packed up two large boxes of props and got them shipped out. After that, I entered the tiny little change we made to The Brain script, and now that is locked and going off to our stage manager so she can make copies for our meet and greet and read-through, come either Thursday or Friday – not sure which day we’ll do it. I then began packing a big box of clothing and toiletries for the long stay, and I’ll be overnighting that on Monday, and dear reader Cason will retrieve it and meet me at my first residence on Wednesday afternoon. After that, I was quite ready for a little light supper, so I did something I’ve never done in all my years of living in this neighborhood – I went to Twain’s Coffee Shop, which is a mere five minutes from the home environment. Well, it’s not the greatest coffee shop, but the food was good, the service was swift, and it’s nice to know that there’s another twenty-four hour place besides Jerry’s and Du-Par’s. I had a salad and a bacon cheeseburger and both were good. After that, I finally came home and sat on my couch like so much fish, and that too was pleasantly pleasant.

Last night, I watched a motion picture I TIVOd about a year ago entitled Absence Of Malice. I have no idea why I never picked up the DVD of this film, since I really liked the film when I saw it on its initial release. It’s not perfect, by any means, but the press gets a nice dressing down and I feel we can’t have enough of that. Sidney Pollack gets the job done, director-wise, and Paul Newman, Sally Field, Josef Sommer, and especially Wilford Brimley, turn in wonderful performances. Watching Mr. Brimley just brings home how we have no more character actors like that – they just don’t really exist anymore. The one sour note in the film, for me, is the mannered and “actorly” performance of Bob Balaban, who does so much actor shtick (the rubber band around the hands bit made me want to throttle him, along with the gum-chewing bit) that you want to shout to stop the acting classes and just get real. The film has a good Dave Grusin score and it all moves right along.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because my new do will be done quite soon and I must get my beauty rest so I can look young and vibrant or at least vibrant when the do is a done deal.

After the do is done, I shall return, pack some more clothing and stuff, do a bunch of errands, and begin organizing everything I’m taking for my trip. My plan is to be completely ready by tomorrow night, so that I don’t have anything to do before I leave on Wednesday morning, other than attend some meetings and whatnot – in other words, the big clothing box will be shipped, packing will be minimal and that will be that.

I don’t think I have anything planned on Sunday, but maybe I do and if I do then my do will be noted when I do whatever it is I’m doing.

I have several meetings on Monday and Tuesday, but will be done by three on Tuesday, so that I can spend the rest of the day and evening relaxing, so that I get some good sleep before waking up very early on Wednesday morning.

Yes, we’d better put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons again, we’d better break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks again, we’d better dance the Hora and the Carioca again, because today is young jhvw’s birthday. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to young jhvw. On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO YOUNG JHVW!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, get a new do by Teddy, pack, do errands, eat a nice meal, jog and then sit on my couch like so much fish. Today’s topic of discussion: What are the movies you’d most like to see released on DVD that haven’t been as yet? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, as I ready my do to be done anew and then I will have a new do.
