FURTHERMORE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it is Sunday. I think it’s Labor Day weekend, too – is that right? I have lost all sense of time and frankly time has lost all sense of me. In any case, it is Sunday and if it is Labor Day weekend I shall not be doing any labor today because today is my day off. Oh, I have a bit of work to do, but nothing major and I think I shall just have a nice walk around the city and do some fun things. Yes, Virginia, today I shall labor to do no labor (robal, spelled backwards). Furthermore, I think that today I shall begin a jogging routine. May I just ask a question? What idiot made up the word “furthermore?” What word person decided to take further and marry it to more? And while said word person was at it, why didn’t said word person come up with furtherless? And what kind of word is further in the first place. These are the questions that roam the windmills of my mind. Where was I? Oh, yes, no labor on Labor Day Sunday. Speaking of labor, yesterday was a heavy walking day. Prior to said walking, I got up, toddled off to rehearsal, and had my usual good time. Our musical director put the cast through their musical paces – he’s a real stickler, and he really understands the score, and it sounds marvy from our marvy company of players. I then finished blocking the last half of a scene we hadn’t finished, and one of the two musical numbers I hadn’t done (one duet, one solo, with the solo remaining to be staged once our Fred arrives). So, the show is basically blocked and choreographed now, and this week’s big task is putting in Fred and Yoni (Rob Evan and Alet Taylor), which will hopefully go very quickly. And then we’ll begin our run-throughs. Today’s rehearsal was only three hours, so afterwards I took my stuff back to my living quarters and then took a really long walk from Tenth and 51st down to Fifth and 18th. It was about a forty-five minute walk and it was quite a lovely day, so it was very enjoyable, although by the end of it my feet were pretty achy. I went to a used CD store called Academy – the selection of soundtracks and shows wasn’t too hot, but I managed to get a couple of nice used Bossa Nova CDs, which I’ll give a listen to today. After that, I went to a used bookstore I like directly across the street – Skyline. It’s really gone downhill and they had not one single thing of interest to me, which was a first.

After that, I walked all the way back to 47th and Ninth to sup at Pam Real Thai. It was a nice group that included Cason, BJ, Miss Patti (who flies home early Sunday morning after being very helpful getting the show re-blocked), our musical director Larry Goldberg, and Barry Pearl. The food was very nice but not as good, at least for me, as the Thai place in the Village, so I’ll be going back there at some point this week. After that, I came home and sat at my computer like so much fish. I think I walked a total of ninety blocks and boy are my arms tired.

Hard to believe that we’ve had eight rehearsals already and that we’re in fairly good shape, especially considering that two of our actors will be arriving this week. I’m also feverishly trying to book talent for the fundraiser. One of the things I did when I got home was do the arrangement of the opening number of our event – I’d tell you what it is, but every time I mention something like that on this here site, someone ends up doing it elsewhere and beating us to the punch. Well, I will NOT be beaten to the punch anymore and hence I’m keeping mum on the subject. I can only tell you it will be a really fun opening number that will combine both a Menken AND a Schwartz song, but not one written by them together, and I think the put-together really works.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because it’s time to do so and furthermore I’m afraid if we keep going in this section that I will use the word furthermore at least ten more times and furthermore that would be most unseemly.

As mentioned, today is my day of rest and relaxation, not necessarily in that order. I shall try to get a good night’s sleep (if I do, it would be my first good night’s sleep on this trip), and then I’ll do a few things on the laptop, take a jog or a long walk, and perhaps sup with some folks if we all feel like doing so. I do have a hankerin’ for either mac and cheese or some good pizza, so perhaps dear reader Jose can recommend some great pizza places – John’s I know about, but I’d like to hear some other suggestions, too.

Tomorrow, Rob Evan arrives and the first half of the day will be spent on his music, and the second half on blocking him in to all his scenes, solos, and duets. It will be a full day of work for him. On Tuesday, we put him in to all the group numbers, which will probably take a good portion of that day. On Wednesday, we review everything several times, and on Thursday, we put Alet in, which should take most of that day. And, hold your hats and hallelujah, on Friday we have a stumble through and from then on it’s run-throughs every day – at least one, and sometimes two.

Now wait just a darned minute – we’d all better put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, we’d all better break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, we’d all better dance the Hora or the Can-Can, because today is the birthday of our very own dear reader Ron Pulliam aka RLP. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to our very own dear reader Ron Pulliam aka RLP. On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO OUR VERY OWN DEAR READER RON PULLIAM AKA RLP!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, sleep in, have a peaceful and restful day, and I must have some pizza or some other fun foodstuff. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, and furthermore, let’s do it starting here, starting now.
