NY-QUIL IN NEW YORK

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must write these here notes in a hurry because I really must try and get more than one hour of sleep this fine evening. One hour of sleep is exactly what I got last night, and I didn’t get much more the previous night, so I have taken an Allevert a while ago and I am about to take some Ny-Quil – make that I have taken some Ny-Quil and soon my head will be on a pillow and hopefully I will sleep through the night. I probably should have not taken the Ny-Quil until hafter frineshing the noten, because now I’m all light-headed and letters are dancing before my eyes like flights of gazelles doing the boogaloo. So, if therebt’s a typo ro two let’ sn not make a big dael about ti. Speakin g of ti, yesterday I had five packets of EmergenC. The first packet was most amusing. I arrived at rehearsal glassy-eyed and vaguely discontented and opened my first Diet Coke o’ the day. My choreographer brought me five packets of EmergenC and suggested I just dump one of them in the Diet Coke. I thought that sounded like a fine idea so I dumped the packet in and the Diet Coke erupted like a volcano, spewing its contents all over the floor – it was amazing to watch and there was no stopping it. Three-quarters of the bottle erupted before it finally stopped. We were all quite giddy watching it, and then we cleaned up the mess. The first order of the day was reblocking Alet’s number – we basically put it back the way it wuz with some embellishments here and there. Alet then drilled the tap routine, then we finished working scenes and then it was time for lunch. The day had been gray when I left, so I’d brought an umbrella and it’s a good thing I was just a fella with an umbrella because when we came out of the rehearsal hall it was pouring. We went to a nearby eatery and I had chicken soup with rice and a half-a-chicken wrap. After we got back for the afternoon rehearsal, I had some hot water with EmergenC, and that made me feel better. We did a full run-through, pretty much without stopping. Still having flubbed line problems and I’ve begun to be a real stickler about it – hopefully, those who are having the problems will study until they have it word perfect. The flow of the show was really good – but we’re still trying to get back to the place where everything seems spontaneous and fresh. It always happens, and it’s getting better, but we still have a ways to go. But even now, in this shape, the cast is so wonderful, it’s just a pleasure to watch them strut their stuff. I have no idea what the New York reaction will be, and one can only hope for the best. After rehearsal, I came right home, made some telephonic calls, answered e-mails, and then took a walk to buy the Ny-Quil and some other stuff. I then lay on my bed like so much fish and I actually nodded off for about forty minutes – it was heavenly.

My brain is no longer functioning. I’ve just been staring at the screen in a stupor. Staring at a screen in a stupor is stupid. Yes, you heard it here – it was a stupid stupor.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below beaucaushe I msut move on to the next section before I babble myself into o’blivion.

I think I’ll sing a new lyric to the tune of Autumn In New York:

Ny-Quil in New York
Why do I feel so lightheaded
Ny-Quil in New York
Why can’t I focus my eyes

Today, we’ll be having a morning run-through, then we lose a couple of people, then the afternoon we’ll drill numbers and lines. I’m really at the point where I only want to do run-throughs but every day we are without people from time to time – I think we can get at least one a day, but I really wanted to do two. I’ve asked our assistant choreographer, the beautiful Cassie, to do the tracks of the people who are missing – that way, we at least have a shot at two run-throughs. The way the Equity showcase contract works, actors can just leave whenever they feel like it and that’s that. I’m told one show just lost their leading man because of it – he went on an audition and landed a commercial shooting out of town. I’m not certain I would ever work under this particular contract again.

After rehearsal, I’ll probably come right home again so I can get some more sleep and hopefully be all better by Friday.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, fore xample, drink EmergenC, rehearse, lunch, rehearse and then rest. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s hoave loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, as I remove my weary bones to the bed and let the Ny-Quil in New York do its work.
