STRICTLY BY THE NUMBERS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it is late and she of the Evil Eye will be here bright and early, plus I’ve got an early meeting and then a rehearsal. In fact, I have no time today to just relax and smell the roses or the coffee or the corned beef. No, the whole day is taken, and then I have to attend a big LACC event at six. So, let me cut to the chase and just give you the edited for this time slot notes. Yesterday was a nice little day all around. Of course, heaven forbid we should get through it without one bit of unnecessary drama, but said drama was inane and didn’t last more than ten minutes. But, otherwise it was a perfectly pleasant day with fun things. The fun things were yesterday’s rehearsals, which began with Kirsten Benton Chandler’s Somewhere That’s Green, which she does a bang-up job with. After she was done, my pal Greg Jbara was next – I hadn’t seen him in years, so it was great to catch up and we laughed and laughed and just when we could laugh no more we laughed again. We went over his song, a very pretty number from something called Home On The Range or something – he actually voiced one of the characters in the film. When he was done, Vicki Lewis arrived – they’d played together in Damn Yankees and maybe even Chicago, so we all had a nice reunion. I hadn’t seen Vicki in even longer than Greg. She’s so much fun. We finally settled on her song, I Want To Be A Rockette, a song I introduced to CD on Debbie Gravitte’s Menken album. She’ll be fantastic in it. After she was done, Patrick Cassidy arrived. I don’t really know him all that well, but we’ve seen each other at various functions, and he professed to have always wanted to work with me, so that was nice. He’d never realized that I used to do The Partridge Family, and when I told him, he just looked at me and then put two and two together. It was funny. He’s doing a cut song from Hercules called Shooting Star, which he actually sang on the demos for the film. After he left, then it was time for a meeting about the fundraiser, to see where we’re at. So far, we’ve met my goal for this week (actually my goal was to be where we are by Monday, so we beat it) – we thus far have 420 people booked in the audience. I feel with two-plus weeks to go we might just achieve my goal of selling 1000 tickets, as we’ve booked this first 420 in only a week. It’s still a long haul, but we’re all going to keep pushing like crazy. As soon as the meeting was over, I had to be on my way to LACC to see the opening night of Neil Simon’s female version of The Odd Couple.

Last night, I saw Neil Simon’s female version of The Odd Couple. I’d never see it before, and I’ll give Neil props for sort of making it work. It’s not as good as the original and it’s way too long (which is what happens when you take a three-act play and make it a two-act play), but a lot of the changes work really well and the laughs are plenty. The cast did a fine job and the set was very nice, too. My only criticism is the pace – the play should not run two-and-a-half hours. I’m sure as the run progresses the pace will, most likely, pick up. It’s just my general thing about comedies – two hours, the end.

After the show, I finally came home. By that time, the only place I could get some needed chow was McDonald’s. It wasn’t what I wanted, but I had to eat something because I hadn’t had a chance to eat all the livelong day and night.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because these here notes today are strictly by the numbers.

Actually, if these here notes were strictly by the numbers, they’d look like this: 3201539583. 34 59395 389208298392 48493984. For those well versed in numbers, did I say anything profoundly profound?

Today, as mentioned, I have a breakfast meeting, a rehearsal, and then an event to attend. But, tomorrow – ah, tomorrow is mine, all mine, and I shan’t take any telephonic calls and I shall answer only the e-mails I wish to and if anyone has a problem with that they can eat my eyeballs.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do all the stuff above and then some. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite fast food foods? The ones that you love even though you know you shouldn’t? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, and tomorrow I promise we’ll have notes that aren’t strictly by the numbers.
