VARIETY IS THE SPICE OF LIFE II

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I’m happy to say that our fundraiser got a very nice review from Variety – http://www.variety.com/review/VE1117935339.html?categoryid=34&cs=1. By going to that link you can read it for your very own self. Variety is, after all, the spice of life. Or is life the spice of Variety? Or is the spice of Variety the life? It’s all so confusing. Speaking of confusing, yesterday, a day in which I was going to do as little as possible, ended up being a day in which I did a lot of stuff – wasn’t my plan, but that’s the way it worked. I couldn’t sleep past eight for some reason, and I had a plethora of lovely congratulatory e-mails waiting for me, so that was nice. I then had to deal with some annoying things regarding our final funding payment – as you know, it’s been an ordeal every step of the way, and it seems the final payment will be no different. We’re doing our best to wrap it all up, and I’m hoping with the help of the head of the theater department, that that can happen in the next few days. I then had to ship out the Brain scores to the UK and I had to get out a really big store order of our new Kritzerland title. After that, I had a bunch more things come up – e-mails to answer, telephonic calls to take, but I finally wrapped it all up around six. At that point, I made some pasta and sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a motion picture on DVD entitled Game Of Death, starring Mr. Bruce Lee. Well, about ten or twelve minutes of the 100 minute film starred Bruce Lee. You see, Game of Death was put together after Mr. Lee had passed way at thirty-two-years of age. Several years before, he’d shot some footage for a project he wanted to do entitled Game Of Death. That project never happened and the footage languished in a vault, until it was purchased by the producers of the new Game Of Death. They brought in two other actors to impersonate Mr. Lee, along with Gig Young and Dean Jagger, both of whom look as if they’re at death’s door (which they were), along with Hugh O’Brian playing a character named Stick. All three of the aforementioned actors turn in very poor performances. Collen Camp was brought in for some spunkiness. The two Bruce Lee impersonators look nothing like him. Occasionally, there is an outtake from some other Bruce Lee film, just so we have a clear view of the real guy. At one point there is a shockingly inept shot where the new Bruce Lee imposter is sitting at a makeup table and they superimpose the face of the real Bruce Lee onto this guy’s body. Did they think no one would notice? But, the last twelve minutes or so is mostly the real Bruce Lee and his fight footage from the earlier project – that stuff is really fun to watch. The rest of the film plods along, but it’s so 70s-centric that I enjoyed it in a perverse sort of way. The film is helped by the good score by John Barry. This new region 2 special edition is the first time the film has been released on DVD in an enhanced for widescreen TVs transfer. The US release is merely letterboxed but not enhanced. The image quality is okay – not terrible, not brilliant. The sound is excellent.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because Variety is the spice of life and life, like Variety, needs all the spice it can get. If Variety is the spice of life, what it the Hollywood Reporter?

This morning, I’m going to pack up all the orders for the new Kritzerland release, and I’ll get them all shipped out. That will probably take up the entire morning, and then, if I can, I would like to just take the rest of the day and really relax and I do mean really relax as in really relax. What I’d like to do, if you must know, is really relax, or, to put it another way, I’d like to really relax.

I am going to really start back on a diet this coming week because with the holidays coming up I don’t want to gain even more weight, or I’ll have to buy all new clothes. So, I’ll start jogging again and then I’ll watch what I eat instead of eating what I eat.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, package and ship, and then I must try and really relax as in really relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you dear readers get to ask me or any other dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely postings shall we, and remember, Variety is the spice of life – once you know that, all else makes sense.
