START SPREADIN’ THE NEWS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, start spreadin’ the news, I’m leavin’ today, I want to be a part of it, New York, New York. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, spread that news for I’m leavin’ today to come to New York, New York. I haven’t been there since July, and that trip barely counts as it was so fast. Before that, I hadn’t been since October of last year. So, tell your friends, tell your neighbors, tell the man in the moon and the girl on the motorcycle, BK is comin’ to town. You’ll be able to occasionally find me supping at Joe Allen, although I’ve been informed by those in the know that, once again, they’ve raised their prices – not really the smart thing to do in this particular economic climate, but done it they have. If it’s outrageous now, then I shall sup elsewhere. That said, I will be there this evening. Speaking of this evening, yesterday was just the kind of day I wanted and needed, not necessarily in that order. I got a good night’s sleep, got up, answered e-mails, did the long jog, did my errands and whatnot, and came home and ate an apple and some grapes to tide me over until dinner. I then began packing. I sent ahead a whole box of shirts and good shoes and the like, but I forgot to include underwear and socks, which, as you might imagine, take up a lot of room when it’s a ten-day trip. So, my intention to pack light didn’t really happen. The only clothing in the suitcase are two t-shirts, new jeans, my running shorts, my sleeping shorts, and a whole mess o’ socks and underwear. In addition to that, a few papers I need, one music chart (and all its orchestra parts), and my phone charger. I was going to take my mini-backup drive, but I may not – it doesn’t take up that much room, but I don’t really intend to do any writing on this trip, save for the notes, so there’s not really anything I need to back up. After packing, I prepped my computer carrying case, put the Rodgers and Hammerstein contracts in a priority envelope and put postage on it, and I’ll either bring it with me or have someone mail it from here – as soon as they let me know to whose attention it should go, and their new address. I think that’s about all of it and I feel pretty comfortable that I’ve got everything done, save for packing my cologne and hairbrush after I’ve used them in the morning.

Yesterday, I didn’t feel like watching any DVDs, but I did watch a couple of Popeye cartoons from the second volume. I’m so used to the later cartoons that these are not that much fun for me. They are, however, unique, and there are some completely surreal bits in them. The transfers look good, and I watched the documentary on Max Fleischer, Out Of The Inkwell, which I enjoyed. My personal favorites of the Fleischer output are the incredible Superman cartoons.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button so we can start spreadin’ the news in the next section.

Have I mentioned that I shall be on my way to New York, New York quite early this morning? I shall and I will. A car will arrive at five-thirty to take me to LAX, where I will check in and then wait to go on the plane for our seven-twenty flight. If all goes well, I should arrive in Newark around three-thirty and hopefully be at my hotel by four-thirty. Once I’m in and settled, I may go down to the exercise room and use the treadmill and/or the exercise bike, or I may wait and do that early Monday morning.

I’ll be meeting Jose and maybe a couple of other people this evening at Joe Allen – it won’t be a late evening, though, because I have a ten o’clock rehearsal tomorrow morning, and that will last until about three. Then I’m hoping to see the theater or, if that’s not feasible, I’ll go visit a record store with Jose and see the theater after Tuesday’s rehearsal.

At some point we’ll be having a production meeting (either Wednesday or Friday, I’m presuming) so we can go over all the details, and on Thanksgiving I’ll be joining the do at FJL’s home environment, which I’m very much looking forward to.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, get up very early, go to the airport, board a plane, and be on my way to New York, New York, settle into my hotel, sup at Joe Allen, and maybe use the exercise room. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst we start spreadin’ the news.
