MY TREATISE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I was going to write a long treatise about the way I am sometimes astonished by people, and not in a good way, but then I realized I don’t like the word treatise. Therefore, I shall not write a treatise on anything. Can a treatise be both a treat and a tease? Are these here notes a treatise? I looked up some synonyms for treatise and all of those words are nice than treatise – dissertation, discourse, essay, article, piece, thesis, tract, paper – but, no, none of those were good enough for the Word Person who felt he just had to come up with another word and grab some Word glory. And that man was Herman J. Frick, who not only invented the word “treatise” but also invented the stumbling block. Mr. Frick died at ninety-three years of age, and the last word he spoke was “treatise.” What the HELL am I going on about? Oh, yes, the way I am sometimes astonished by people, and not in a good way. There, I’ve said my piece, done my article, put forth my thesis, essayed my essay, stated my tract, written my paper, had my discourse, and done my dissertation, but the one thing I have not done is my treatise. Speaking of my treatise (which is different than My Romance), yesterday was a day of rain. It rained most of the day and therefore I did not do the long jog and I only left the home environment once, to get mail and lunch. I did manage to write nine count them nine pages, and I happened to be writing a character that was so much fun that I just kept going, like the Energizer Bunny. I also had a few telephonic calls and answered many e-mails, but mostly I just wrote and wrote and wrote. I also practiced the Nudie songs at the piano – I’m getting better at playing them every day. I then finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a motion picture on DVD entitled Foreign Intrigue, starring Mr. Robert Mitchum and Miss Ingrid Tulean (Thulin). Those who’ve read Benjamin Kritzer (and who hasn’t) know that this movie played a rather important part in my childhood years and that I was quite enamored of Miss Tulean (Thulin), and that a certain girl I met in grammar school reminded me of her. The film was written, produced, and directed by Sheldon Reynolds. It’s really not a very good picture, but there’s something so odd and goofy about it that I quite enjoyed it. This is only the second time I’ve seen it since seeing it back when it came out. I’d managed to find a home grown VHS of it on eBay some years ago (when I was writing Benjamin Kritzer) but it was almost unwatchable in terms of image quality – washed out, terrible color, and lousy sound. This region 2, despite some flaws in the print used, is sharp, has really good color, and is like seeing the film as I saw it back then.

I want to say here and now and also now and here that I am just about biscottied out. I bought a big old jar of Biscotti at Costco – the pieces therein are half-pieces, but I’ve been eating some every day and I probably won’t need to eat a biscotti for the next ten years. I mostly like them because they have crunchy almonds in them. One can’t have enough crunchy almonds.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below before I start writing a treatise on how I am sometimes astonished by people and not in a good way.

Has anyone seen a treatise around here? Today, I shall do the long jog (weather permitting – I really hope it’s clear enough because I need to do it), and then I shall write (hopefully at least five pages, although I did so many yesterday that if I only did three or four it would be fine and dandy and also dandy and fine), then former dear reader Hisaka will be returning some DVDs she borrowed and she’ll be borrowing some more, and I’m also expecting a big ol’ batch of promo CDs at some point in the afternoon.

Tonight, I’ll be seeing Miss Julie Wilson at the Gardenia. I shall be supping there before. I’ll probably have the salmon, as it’s pretty good there.

Tomorrow, I have a noon meeting with Mr. Sean McDermott about his show, and then I’ll write, and then I’ll print out over fifty pages and Xerox then and deliver them to muse Margaret for her mental delectation.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, jog, write, have visits, pick up a package or three, sup, and see Miss Julie Wilson. Today’s topic of discussion: Who was the first actor or actress you fell madly in love with – that you had a total crush on? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, and let’s be careful that none of them contain a treatise.
