OVER THE WEATHER

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am feeling a little under the weather as I write these here notes. However, I do not wish to feel under the weather and thus I will strive to feel over the weather. I woke up with my throat feeling a little weird, which I attribute to a little allergy thing that kicked up its heels the night before. I was hoping it would get better as the day progressed but as the day progressed it didn’t. On the other hand, it hasn’t gotten worse. I do not wish to get sick and therefore I say be gone weird throat, I bid you adieu. I shall endeavor to get a good night’s sleep and I will pop an occasional Coldeez, just in case. I hope when I awaken in the morning that I will feel over the weather. Speaking of the weather, yesterday was a very nice day, other than feeling under the weather. I didn’t sleep as late as I hoped I would, but what sleep I got was cherce. I got up and decided that today would be my day off from the long jog (I didn’t take a day off the week before, so I was ready). I then weighed myself for the first time in a week and a half and am happy to see I’m maintaining and not gaining for if I were gaining rather than maintaining I would be angry. I neither gained nor lost, and I am jiggy with that, especially as I’ve upped my caloric intake for the last few weeks as I don’t really want to lost more weight now that I am in my mid-150s. I then wrote three pages and finished the chapter I was on, after which I printed out the latest fifty pages and Xeroxed them and delivered them to muse Margaret. I came back home and was surprised to get a call from her within an hour – she’d finished the pages and liked them and had only four suggestions, two of them tiny word fixes, and two of them suggestions – one to add one line to one paragraph, the other to elaborate on something I only mention. I did them all, as they were all excellent suggestions. I ran the changes by her and she thought they were great – the one where I added a couple of paragraphs came out quite amusingly. I then did the first line of a new chapter and that was all I wrote for the day. I then typed up five pages of notes for the creators of the long musical, which I sent off via e-mail. I then toddled off to a little birthday bash at a local Eyetalian eatery. It was fun and I saw some people I knew and I met some very nice people I didn’t know. I had two rather smallish slices of pepperoni pizza. When I got back home I had the piece of chocolate flourless cake must Margaret had given to me – boy was it yummilicious and chocolaty. Since I was still feeling a little under the weather, throat-wise, I drove to the deli and got a bowl of chicken soup, which I ate all up, and which was very soothing. I then ate a couple of biscotti and some fruit candies, and that was it for foodstuffs. I also cleaned out a couple of cabinets and threw out a whole lot o’ stuff, clearing up some needed space to store other things, so that was good. I then finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched another of the Studio One live TV shows, this one Twelve Angry Men. This was the first incarnation of what would become a classic film and stage play. It runs a brisk fifty-five minutes and seems like a dress rehearsal more the more fleshed out version, which is better in every regard. That said, the Studio One version was excellent television. How scary doing live TV drama must have been. Leading player Robert Cummings continually flubs lines and fumfers, as do some of the other actors, but it’s electrifying to watch. Sometimes the cameras get in the way of each other, sometimes they miss the action entirely, but that’s the fun of it. Franklin Schaffner directed the show, and in addition to Mr. Cummings we had Edward Arnold (Ed Begley in the film), Franchot Tone (Lee J. Cobb in the film), and Joseph Sweeney and George Voskovec, the latter two the only ones to reprise their roles in the Sidney Lumet film version. While all the actors are excellent, I’m so used to the film performances that I couldn’t really get with some of the interpretations. Still it was fascinating viewing and I’m looking forward to the other shows in the set.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get my beauty sleep so I can feel over the weather when I arise come morning.

Today, I shall hopefully feel over the weather. I intend to do the long jog, then write at least five pages and maybe more if I’m feeling particularly inspired, and then I’ll be seeing Slumdog Millionaire at the DGA. I shall dine prior to the film somewhere in the neighborhood of said DGA.

Tomorrow, I shall do more writing, and I think I have some sort of meeting with someone but can’t remember what it’s about or who it’s with. I’m sure I have it on my calendar. The rest of the week will be filled with writing and meals and meetings, the biggest of which will be a four-hour work session on the long musical on Thursday.

I hope we still have on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, I hope we still have some cheese slices and ham chunks, I hope we can still dance the Hora and the Bunny Hop, because today is the birthday of occasional dear reader Amy, who is married to occasional dear reader Mark, even though both have been in absentia for way too long. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to occasional dear reader Amy who is married to occasional dear reader Mark. On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO OCCASIONAL DEAR READER AMY WHO IS MARRIED TO OCCASIONAL DEAR READER MARK!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the long jog, write, eat, and see a motion picture. Today’s topic of discussion: Most of our favorite LPs have, by this time, come out on CD. However, which LPs that you love have still not appeared on CD? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, and hopefully by the time most of you are reading these here notes I shall be feeling my oats and feeling over rather than under the weather.
