PALAZZO PANTS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must ask the following question: How can it almost be the end of January??? I gotta tell you, this month has flown by like a gazelle in palazzo pants. Furthermore, I can’t remember a January that has been this crazy in terms of my days and nights, with endless meetings and work sessions and writing the new novel and revising Nudie Musical and prepping new Kritzerland releases – it’s nutty, but I LIKE being busy and love the work, so I guess it’s all fine, although a total day and evening off sure would be swellegant. Let’s take yesterday as an example. I got up a little later than I’d planned which meant that my only window of opportunity to do the long jog had flown out the window. So, I figured I’d do as much writing as I possibly could before the Kritzerland helper came over to help. But I spent the next forty-five minutes doing nothing but revising what I’d written the day before. Then I finally started the new writing and I got three pages done before said helper arrived. Then we had to do a lot of Kritzerland business, including some shipping, so first we got something to eat at the Kansas City Barbecue. We split some baby back ribs and I have to say it was the first time I’ve been even a little disappointed in the food. The ribs, and I know it’s an odd complaint, simply had to much meat on them and said meat was just a little too fatty for my taste. I did have the sweet potato fries as a side dish (haven’t had fries in quite a while), and those were excellent. Then we came back to the home environment and did the Kritzerland business, which took about two hours. Then the helper left and I went back to writing and wrote four more pages. By that time I had to get ready to meet Mr. Sean McDermott for our dinner meeting at the Studio CafĂ©. I got there at seven, got a booth, and waited for him to arrive. At 7:15 I called him to see where he was. He’d forgotten we were meeting. So, he jumped in his car and drove over the hill and got there in about twenty minutes. I was still so full from lunch that I only had some fresh fruit. We had a nice meeting, discussed the show he’ll be doing in three weeks, and set a time to work with our MD next week. I then came home and finally sat on my couch like so much fish, but not before answering about twenty e-mails.

Last night, I watched a documentary on DVD entitled Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired which, I gather, was originally shown on HBO. It’s quite an excellent and compelling documentary. While I’m sure that no one condones what Mr. Polanski did, the facts of this case have been so misreported over the years, with the media and the press serving up downright lies at every opportunity, along with the ill-informed Internet chatter that’s been going on since the advent of the Internet, that the documentary at least sets the FACTS of the case for all to see, not that FACTS matter to stupid people. And the FACT is that the Judge who presided over the case was an ego-ridden despot who did so many illegal things while he presided over the case that if the same exact thing happened today he’d probably be censured or removed. It is no wonder Mr. Polanski fled the country. His accuser has forgiven him and she’s very much a part of this documentary, as are the two attorneys, and several DAs and several of Mr. Polanski’s artistic associates and friends. Mr. Polanski did not take part in the documentary. But I’ll give you one guess who comes off the worst in this documentary, which is just as it should be – yes, the media and the press. What they did during the horrible Sharon Tate murders was perhaps one of the most vile jobs of reportage ever in this country, and they almost topped themselves with this trial. They are so obnoxious and disgusting during the course of this documentary that there were several times I actually screamed at the television. And the worst of it – they don’t care. They take no responsibility for their endless mistakes and lies and they have no shame in their need to badger and annoy and butt in to people’s lives in the smarmiest way. It was bad then and it’s probably worse now. Freedom of the press is their blanket – but when they ruin people’s lives (not in this case) with their mistakes and rush to judgments, they should be held accountable. Well, you get the idea. It’s a really well put-together show, and there are clips from various Polanski films, and some of the historical footage is fantastic. There are also a lot of extras, all of them very interesting.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I now want to buy a pair of palazzo pants, don’t you? Actually, to give credit where it’s due, my friend Richard Jones clued me in to palazzo pants a few days ago and I’m using it in my new novel.

Today will be another jam-packed day. I will definitely do the long jog and hopefully first thing in the morning. I will then try to write as many pages as I can until Miss Adryan Russ gets here for our work session at two. After that’s done, I’ll finish up whatever writing I need to, and then I think I may actually have the evening all to myself, which would be lovely.

Tomorrow, I have a lunch meeting and I’ll be writing, and I think that’s it, so I may have two evenings in a row that are mine all mine.

I called to RSVP for the opening night of Stormy Weather on Monday but was informed that they have no tickets left as everyone had RSVPd the minute they got the invitations. I guess I should know not to snooze. They did put me on a stand-by list and will call me tomorrow if they can get me in. I actually don’t really care one way or the other.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the long jog, write, have a work session, eat something fun, and then watch a DVD or three. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day where you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, whilst we all try to find some images of palazzo pants.
