WANDERLUST

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am so full right now I cannot think straight. Yes, Virginia, I, BK, am so full right now I cannot think straight. Hence, I am thinking crooked. Therefore, these here notes will be slightly askew. Slightly Askew – that’s the title of my next novel, a story of wanderlust in Alaska. Do you know that one definition of “wanderlust” is “itchy feet?” Conversely, do ou know that one definition of “itchy feet” is “wanderlust?” I occasionally have itchy feet but never knew I also had wanderlust. And how can itchy feet cause one to feel any kind of lust? I should think that itchy feet would produce anti-lust. What the HELL am I talking about? Speaking of wanderlust, yesterday was a day in which things happened. For example, I got up. That happened. I then wrote one sentence of the new chapter, then did the early morning errand, then did the long jog. I then had to go to Druxy’s to pick up some DVDs, after which I returned home. I then finally began the writing for the day and I did a little over eight pages, all told. Then I got wanderlust and went to the mail place, where I got mail. I had three packages, too, which is always nice, plus I got the envelope that I’ve been waiting for. I then came back home, did some fixing and adjusting of what I’d written, and then I was on my way to sup with Mr. Brent Barrett.

Last night, I supped with Mr. Brent Barrett. Since he’s staying in the Los Feliz area, we went to the Eyetalian jernt Palermo. It’s a very family-style jernt and the food is good. We had so much fun catching up, and we were there almost two hours. Much dirt was dished and we laughed and laughed and just when we thought we could laugh no more, we laughed again. We discussed several interesting things, and by the end of our dinner, we’d decided to record a new Brent Barrett CD (I produced his other two CDs) – a Christmas album. We’ll go into the studio in the summer, and we’re both really looking forward to it. After dinner, I came directly home, where I finally sat on my couch like so much fish, thoroughly stuffed with rigatoni and two meat balls, garlic bread, a small dinner salad, and one Diet Coke.

I then watched a motion picture on DVD. Said motion picture was only twenty-six minutes long and I have no idea why or for whom it was made, but boy was it a charmer. It was a musical short film entitled Les Bicyclettes De Belsize. I’ve know the title for years because it was the flip side of the Twisted Nerve soundtrack LP. But I’d always thought it was a feature, not a short film. It was shot in 1967 in the UK and features a young man riding his bike. He runs into a little girl on a bike (literally) and she follows him around, having a little girl crush on him. He then crashes into a billboard (he crashes a lot) that has a beautiful girl’s image on it. He immediately falls in love. Through chance, they meet, lose each other, and then come together. At the end, the little girl watches them go off – she’s sad, until a little boy her age passes her by on his bike and gives her a special look. And that’s it. There are about five songs, including the title song, which was a hit for Englebert Humperdink. The music and lyrics are by Les Reed and Barry Mason and the tunes are very catchy, and the main ballad is terrific. The film was directed by Douglas Hickox, and I just adored it. The full frame transfer (it looks like it was shot in 16mm) is excellent on this region 2 DVD.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because frankly I’ve got both wanderlust and itchy feet and want to get to the next section as quickly as possible.

Today, I shall endeavor to get up early and do the long jog (although I may take the day off, jog-wise – we’ll have to see how I feel). I must get as much writing done early as I can. Then I have a helper coming over to help do some Kritzerland work. I also have some errands and whatnot to do, and then I’ll finish whatever writing I can in the afternoon, and then I’m meeting Mr. Sean McDermott at a local eatery to work on his show.

Tomorrow, I’m having a little work session with Adryan Russ, and I think I’m supposed to have a dinner or some other meeting at some point – I have it written down. I’ve kept Thursday and Friday pretty open so I can get a lot of writing done on those days.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, maybe do the long jog, I must write, I must do a little Kritzerland business, I must do errands and whatnot, and then I must have a dinner meeting. Today’s topic of discussion: If you could produce your very own revival of any play or musical and cast whoever you wanted in it, what would it be and who would you cast? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst we all try to scratch our wanderlust.
