IN THE THROES OF THE THROES

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am in the throes of the throes. I don’t know what that means, but I like the way it looks. But for those who don’t, then let’s just say that I am in the throws of the throws. Seriously though, I’m sure some of you out there in the dark know what it’s like to be in the throes of the throes, in the middle of a maelstrom or even a femaelstrom, in the hub of a hurricane, where you are juggling many things and trying to get them all done in a timely fashion (calypso pants, striped top, and suede boots) and also done well so that people can say well done. So, here I sit, in the throes of the throes and on top of all those throes I have to write these here notes. Those Throes – that’s the title of my next novel. Speaking of my next novel, yesterday was a wacky little day. For example, I got up early. That was wacky. It was slightly overcast outside. By the time I’d gotten over my grogginess and was ready to jog, it was completely overcast outside. I decided to wait and see if the sun would break through – I shouldn’t have because thirty minutes later it was pouring rain and it rained throughout most of the day and evening and it’s still raining as I write these here notes. I revised the previous day’s writing and then slogged on, but first had to deal with our very disparate creative team on the long musical and calm the waters, which I did. I then wrote about four pages, then answered a lot of e-mails. If all the details can be worked out, I think all four of our upcoming LACCTAA events are now booked, so that’s a big load off. I then went to Gelson’s and bought some foodstuffs, and picked up several packages. I had to go ship several things as well – happily, the post office wasn’t crowded. I then ate two count them two tuna fish sandwiches, and then I buckled down Winsocki and wrote four more pages, after which I just had to stop. I’m in a critical part of the book and about to move into its final two chapters, and there’s a decision I’ve been putting off making a plot point – today there is no turning back, today I decide and go with it. And if I ultimately decide that I didn’t make the right decision, it will only involve redoing about ten pages, so one way or the other it will get done by mid next week. I then finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a motion picture on DVD entitled Le Choc, a French motion picture from France, starring Mr. Alain Delon and Miss Catherine Deneuve. I found it to be a nifty little thriller, with moments of real charm between the two leads. It moved right along, despite some unnecessary plot developments that didn’t really pay off or go anywhere. But when you’ve got the star wattage of Deneuve and Delon, you forgive and enjoy. The film also boasts an absolutely terrific score by Philippe Sarde, some of which he would “borrow” and reuse in the American film, The Manhattan Project. The transfer was fantastic – how lovely to see the color blue being used in a transfer. When the color blue is used then all other colors are correct and beautiful. Someone alert Warner Bros. The film is part of a Catherine Deneuve box set and I haven’t seen any of the other films in the set, so I’m looking forward to viewing each and every one of them.

After that, I read through the eight pages I’d written – I was worried I wouldn’t care for them, but I thought they were fine – I finessed a few things, and then I’ll read them again when I get up to make sure I’m happy.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below whilst I continue to be in the throes of the throes.

Today, the rehearsal with Mr. Sean McDermott has been moved to tomorrow, and I’m actually jiggy with that, since I can now just stay home and write all the livelong day, with a nice meal break at some point. I’d really like to write another eight pages. We shall see.

Tomorrow, I’ll do the Sean rehearsal, and then I’m seeing some one-act musicals in the evening. Sunday will be a big writing day. I also have to write the notes for the new Kritzerland CD, which I’m hoping can be announced by the end of next week. I’ve also got to write the press release blurb as well – I have to have all that done by Monday. I’m praying the master will be finished this weekend.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the long jog (weather permitting), write, have a fun meal break, and write some more. I’m sure I’ll watch a DVD or two, as well. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/video player. I’ll start – CD, a gorgeous Alexandre Desplat soundtrack to a film called L’Ennemi Intime, and a few Anita Kerr CDs. DVD, the Deneuve collection, Arch Oboler’s Five, and various and sundried other DVDs. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, and I soon hope to be out of the throes that I am in the midst of.
