THE FAT AND THE LEAN

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must write these here notes in a hurry for she of the Evil Eye will be here all too soon. Therefore, we shall put aside all the fat and just have the lean, sort of what I did over the last six or seven months – I put aside the fat and just have the lean. Speaking of lean, yesterday was quite an interesting day for reasons I no longer remember. I do remember waking up. That was interesting. I do remember doing an early errand – that wasn’t so interesting, but I did it nonetheless and lessthenone. I do remember answering quite a few e-mails and having a few telephonic conversations. I do remember having a working lunch with Mr. Kevin Spirtas. At that point, I was supposed to take the rest of the day and have some “me” time. But I had no “me” time at all. Instead, I wrote the liner notes for our upcoming soundtrack release, I did the thank yous and credits for both releases and that took the rest of the day. I then had to answer more e-mails and have more telephonic calls, and then I finally said “I’m done for today” and I drove over to Amoeba to just wander around and see what’s new. I was there for about an hour, and then I came home, made some adjustments on the liner notes, sent them to the designer, had an e-mail from the mastering engineer saying I’d left a track off the soundtrack, so I found it, found the proper place for it, and sent him the info, and then I sat on my couch like so much fish for about ten minutes, after which I took a shower, and then did some more work on the computer. So much for “me” time.

I did manage to listen to about five CDs, so at least I’m catching up with CD listening. I also have been TIVOing quite a few things, and I looked at the openings of about eight movies, the most interesting of which was The Dresser, with Albert Finney and Tom Courtney – I somehow missed it way back when, and the ten minutes I watched were very good, so I’ll finish that this weekend. I never did get around to packing up the last three dealer orders, but I’ll do that this weekend and ship them out first thing Monday morning – one of them requires I take it to the post office to have them figure out what the shipping cost is – it’s an overseas priority package, flat rate, and I have no idea what that cost is.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because there is no fat in this section, only lean, and if I type one more word then there will be fat, and we can’t have that, now can we?

Today was supposed to be a day with only “me” time. I’ll be up early, and jogging early, and then, instead of “me” time, I have to go to the editing room and see the latest version of the Kevin and Sean show – this time with the pickups added in. Since the editor is doing that just prior to my arrival, I’m not holding out much hope that they’ll be finessed or even that he’s looked at all of the footage. If he hasn’t, I’ll just leave, because I’m not going to sit there while he looks through footage. Whatever happens, I’m leaving at 1:45 and coming home, because the Handy Man is coming sometime after two and I must be here, so he can fix various and sundried things that need fixing.

Once I’m home, I do believe I will have nothing but “me” time until Monday, and I may take Monday afternoon off, as well, if at all possible. I have meetings on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, but they should only take a short amount of time. The biggest thing for next week is doing everything I can to get the two new releases to the pressing plant and printers. However, the mastering engineer doesn’t seem to be near finishing the soundtrack release, despite my very clear and concise editing list, which took me sixteen hours to do. So, I really have no idea when he’ll be done, but I sure hope it’s by Wednesday so he can Fed Ex the finished master to the pressing plant.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the long jog, do errands, sit in an editing room, wait for the Handy Man, and have as much “me” time as possible. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your all-time favorite films and plays about the theater and actors? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I end these here notes with not a trace of fat and a lot of lean.
