WHO KILLED TEDDY BEAR?

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I have some very important news to impart: It is Tuesday. I ask you, where else on all the Internet can you find such information? Nowhere, that’s where. I’m quite tired as I write these here notes. I just yawned three times in a row. One eye is closed and the other is at half-mast. In short, I’m pooped. I think I’ll just get through these here notes and not worry about the content. We’ll just have to be content with the content. Look at that, the same two words with the same spelling, pronounced differently and with different meanings. How did that happen? Some brilliant Word Person looked at the word content and said “I like that word so much that I think I’ll usurp it, stress a different syllable and come up with a whole new meaning, and it will confuse and infuriate people all over the English-speaking world. Speaking of the English-speaking world, yesterday was yet another long, busy day filled with this and that and also that and this with a little of those and these thrown in for good measure. I got up early, did the long jog right away, then revised pages from the previous day’s writing, and then wrote four pages pretty quickly. I also had to attend to several e-mails and telephonic calls. I can say that one of the e-mails is very good news, although I will not officially announce said good news until the actual contracts are signed. But, the contracts were actually supposed to be attached to the e-mail I received late in the afternoon, but they weren’t, so I wrote back pointing that out, and I’m sure I’ll have them in the morning. But, this should begin a relationship with a major company in terms of licensing limited editions for Kritzerland, and the first two titles are ones that I am very excited about. Stay tuned. I then took a shower and was on my way to a three-hour work session. Said work session went very well and now the composer and lyricist of the long show will rework and redo what they need to, and then we’ll move on to the second act. I then came home, went to the mail place and picked up several packages, and then came home. I wrote close to four more pages, and then I had to toddle off to have a working dinner with Mr. David Wechter. That was a lot of fun, and we talked through all the things we needed to talk through and now I’ll finalize our new Nudie Musical script, which we’re both very pleased with. Then in a couple of weeks we’ll have some actors over to do a VERY informal read-through, just for us to hear. Then about two weeks after that we’ll do the official staged reading where we invite some people in to hear it. After that, I came home and finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I did manage to watch a motion picture on DVD, one of the oddest motion pictures ever, entitled Who Killed Teddy Bear, starring Mr. Sal Mineo, Miss Juliette Prowse, Miss Elaine Stritch, and Mr. Jan Murray. It’s actually somewhat shocking that this film got made at all given its subject matter which, for 1965, wasn’t exactly mainstream. The film starts off wonderfully with the extremely catchy title song (eventually recorded by me with Miss Tammi Tappan doing the vocal honors). We’re immediately thrust (and I do mean thrust) into one of the most fetishistic films ever made. Let us just say that with Mr. Sal Mineo’s wardrobe, nothing, and I mean nothing, is left to the imagination. Miss Stritch plays a Lesbian, Miss Prowse’s character is so ridiculously overwrought that she sort of deserves everything she gets, and Jan Murray is completely outrĂ© as an obsessive detective who listens to privately recorded perverts on tape in front of his ten-year-old daughter. There are some fantastic location shots of 1965 Broadway, a Broadway that no longer exists. This film has been in the public domain forever, and I’ve only seen it in tenth generation VHS tapes and some homegrown tenth-generation DVD, and because of the awful quality, the film actually seems sleazier than it already is. This DVD, a region two DVD from the UK uses two source prints, neither optimal. It’s a full frame transfer rather than in its proper ratio of 1.85:1, but the one source print that’s used for 90% of the transfer is very sharp, with good contrast – and a lot of scratches. The other 10% is from a 16mm dupe. But this film hasn’t looked this good in heaven knows when, even as rough as it is. If you have a multi-region player and you’re a fan of this wacko film, you’ll find it very worthwhile.

Now, let’s all sing:

Who killed teddy bear
Doesn’t anybody care?

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because somebody killed teddy bear and some of us do care.

Today will be another non-stop day of doing things. I’ll get up early, do the long jog, write three or four pages, have some lunch, and then have another three-hour work session, this time with Mr. Sean McDermott, after which I’ll come home, write another three pages, and then sit on my couch like so much fish and watch a movie from the Natalie Wood Collection.

Tomorrow, I don’t think I have any meetings or appointments, so I’ll spend a good deal of the day writing, and will actually try to do more pages than I usually do, since I’m now deep in the home stretch of finishing the new novel, which is not called Who Killed Teddy Bear.

I do hope that no one has removed their pointy party hat and their colored tights and pantaloons, I do hope that no one has put away their cheese slices and ham chunks, I do hope that everyone is still dancing the Hora or the Swim, because today is the actual birthday of our very own dear reader edisaurus aka Amy. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to our very own dear reader edisaurus aka Amy. On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO OUR VERY OWN DEAR READER EDISAURUS AKA AMY!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the long jog, write, lunch, have a work session, pick up a package or two, and then watch a DVD or three. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite sleazy movies, those movies that just make you feel dirty and greasy? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst we all sing the title song to Who Killed Teddy Bear.
