THREE DIMENSIONS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I think I shall write very short notes today and then resume tomorrow with some more tales. After all, it is Sunday, a day of rest, although I shan’t be getting much rest since I have to work at least a few hours. Perhaps tomorrow I’ll actually get to have a few hours off. I must say, yesterday’s notes about The Bishop’s Company really brought back some memories, especially that rat hole jernt I lived in for a couple of weeks. It gives me the willies just thinking about it – that bathroom, that purple carpet. One other thing I think that happened during those two weeks I was there was that somehow I got a terrible sunburn. I don’t really remember where I would have gotten such a sunburn, but it was really bad, and my back was itching and in pain and I could barely sit still it was so awful. So, what did I do? I went to the Pix Theater on Hollywood Blvd. to see a movie and get out of the heat. I chose a new western called The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. I figured the movie would help get my mind off the sunburn and pass the time quickly. But nothing could help the agony I was in. I was squirming almost from the first frame of the movie. And then, I kept squirming and the movie NEVER ENDED, it just kept going and going and going and I thought I was going to DIE. I finally bolted from the theater. Later, I found out that the film ran close to three hours. I’m squirming just writing about it.

Our first LACCTAA event went swimmingly. Our guest was David Lee, the co-creator of Frasier and he was absolutely delightfully delightful. I had quite a lot of questions prepared, and his answers were forthright, funny, touching, and he just had some great stories. We talked about his childhood, his TV career, and his theater career and the time just flew by. For the last twenty minutes we took questions from the audience. We had a decent crowd but it was disheartening, at least for me, that about twenty people who’d made reservations didn’t show. I just don’t understand it and I will never understand it – it’s so bloody rude. Had the twenty people showed up then we would have basically had a full house. But, it’s their loss. After the event, I hurried home, picked up a couple of packages, had to pack up three big orders, and about fifteen single orders, then I took them to the post office. My friend Nick came by for a little visit, and then I had a Subway Spicy Eyetalian sandwich for dinner. I finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a motion picture on DVD entitled Rachel Rachel, starring Miss Joanne Woodward, directed by Mr. Paul Newman. I’d never seen the film. It’s quite a good little film, basically just a character study, with a wonderful performance by Miss Woodward, excellent direction by her husband, and really good supporting performances by James Olson, Estelle Parsons, and Donald Moffat. Gayne Rescher’s camerawork was lovely, as was Jerome Moross’s sensitive score. The transfer is fine.

I forgot to mention that I watched a new DVD of a film called The Stewardesses, in 3 Dimensions. This was a rather notorious little nudie cutie from 1969, I think, with the gimmick of 3D. I thought it was odd then and it’s just as odd now – a lot of nudity but really it would probably get a PG today. But here’s the interesting thing: As soon as I saw the film’s star, Christina Hart, I remembered that she was in the reading of my musical version of To Kill A Mockingbird, as Scout (she looked young, but not THAT young) – isn’t that funny?

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because frankly these here notes are starting to feel like they’re in 3 Dimensions.

Today, if all goes according to Hoyle, I’ll be mixing the Nudie Musical demo CD. I really need to get it done pronto, because we have to give it to the fellow who’s creating the lead sheets so he can begin his work. Even though mid-June seems a long way away, it’s really just around the corner and I really have to do a lot of stuff to make sure we’re all ready for this. I’ve locked in three cast members so far, and this week I’ll be trying to cast the leads.

The bulk of this coming week will be devoted to getting Illya Darling to the printers and ready to go live on the Kritzerland site a week from tomorrow. I’ll also be going through the tapes of the potential new soundtrack release to see what’s what. And there are a few meetings and meals and then the sound mix for the Kevin and Sean show. And a week from today is the annual Paperback Show – I’ll be signing there from two to three.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the long jog, hopefully mix a demo, complete the liner notes, and try to get at least a couple of hours of “me” time. And all in three dimensions. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we – and all in three dimensions.
