GOOD INTENTIONS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I have fifteen count them fifteen minutes to write these here notes if they’re to be posted on time and I’m here to tell you they WILL be posted on time so I cannot shoot the breeze as it were because if I shot the breeze the breeze might press charges and then where would I be? I forgot to mention something amusing that happened the other day – Thursday, I think it was. I was running around like crazy and was really late in starting to head over to an appointment. I realized I had no gas in the car, so I zoomed over to the local gas emporium to fill up the tank. I paid inside, then pumped the gas. I kind of hurried back to get my change. Now, there is a really large step up to enter the little store and I misjudged it because I was in a hurry and I almost took a header right through the glass door. It was all I could do to stop from going through the door headlong or crashing to the ground, but I’m really good at NOT doing things like that and even though I pulled several muscles I managed to stay upright. I was so angry I said several curse words quite loudly. I got my change. The man behind the counter apologized because he knows how high that step is and I’m quite certain I’m not the only one who’s tripped there. Coming out of the store I heard a voice say “Good recovery there – how did you do that?” I was in a hurry and was just going to throw out a quick response when I looked at the guy who was saying it – it was actor Billy Drago, who I directed a long time ago in Prime Suspect. So, I stopped and told him who I was and when we’d worked together and he remembered and it was very nice to have a brief chat. And that was something amusing that happened to me that I forgot to mention. Other than that, yesterday was a day that went by. I had a LOT of errands and whatnot to do and I did them and there was a lot of traffic everywhere I went. I had to do work here relating to the next Kritzerland soundtrack release, and that took several hours. Then I had more errands and whatnot to do, and after doing them I was so hungry that I stopped at Bird’s and had a quick meal – it was yummilicious, as always. I finally got home around seven and was so tired I just sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I decided to watch a motion picture on DVD entitled Kiss Me, Stupid, starring Mr. Dean Martin, Mr. Ray Walston, and Miss Kim Novak. Peter Sellers began in the role eventually played by Mr. Walston, but several weeks into shooting he had a heart attack and left the film. It would be interesting to see his footage – Walston is only okay in the role. The biggest problem with the film, for me, is Cliff Osmond, who is, in my opinion, really bad, and in fact gives one of the worst comedy performances I’ve ever seen. I’ve never heard otherwise, but I can’t imagine him being in this film opposite Peter Sellers – I’d be curious to know if he was in it from the start. The picture is Mr. Wilder’s smarmiest, but it does contain some funny bits, and Dean Martin makes gleeful fun of himself as Dino. Felicia Farr is fetching as Walston’s wife, and Novak is a delight as Polly the Pistol. But the person who makes me laugh the loudest in Kiss Me, Stupid is Doro Merande and Miss Farr’s mother. She has one scene but she hits it right out of the ballpark. The best thing about the film is Andre Previn’s score – it’s a GREAT comedy score, and several of the film’s biggest laughs are because on one repeated music cue every time Walston gets jealous. The transfer is fine.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because despite my good intentions it’s already after midnight and these here notes should be up and posted.

Today, I’ll finally be having a late lunch with dear reader Jeanne, after which I have a long meeting with our very own Miss Alet Taylor about the club act we’re putting together for her. After that, I really hope to just sit and vegetate so I can have a clear head and mind for the busy week ahead.

Tomorrow I have meetings and errands and then I’m going to see the Musical Theatre Guild’s version of Kiss Of The Spiderwoman at the Alex Theater.

The rest of the week is filled with meetings and meals and shows and whatnot, but I’m looking forward to all of it.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the long jog (or not – I’ve done seven days in a row and may be ready for a one-day break), proof, lunch, have a long meeting, and then vegetate. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, and despite my good intentions, I shall now get these here late notes up and posted.
