April 4, 2009:

THE COMING WEE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, Illya Darling arrived and I spent most of the afternoon with the aid of the helper packaging them up and amazingly getting all the orders and dealer orders shipped. It took about three hours all told, but everything is at the post office and will conceivably be arriving on Monday (maybe even tomorrow for local folks). The best thing that happened with Illya is that people seem to have discovered that Kritzerland is actually a label with other CDs, and we sold several of everything we’ve put out, so that was a real treat. Next week I’ll be making the decision as to the next four titles I’ll be licensing through MGM – they’re all really good but everything depends on the tapes and whether they’re what we need. So, there will be lots happening at Kritzerland over the next few months and what a pleasure it is to be a productive label again, although if we continue at this pace I will have to actually start paying helpers to help because I cannot do it all myself or even with my one helpful helper. Other than that, yesterday was a nice day. I got up early, did the long jog, did some errands and whatnot, and then had a work session for a couple of hours, after which I did a few more errands and whatnot, after which Illya arrived. After all the packaging and shipping I treated helper and I to a fine pizza at Dino’s and it was as great as always. After that, I came home and sat on my couch like so much fish and started a motion picture on DVD entitled The Money Trap – I’ll finish it on Sunday.

I’m too tired to write anything of substance but I promise some more stories for the coming wee. Wow. Did you see what happened there? I thought I’d typed “week” but I left off the “k.” What a difference a letter makes. The Coming Wee – that’s the title of my next novel.

I really have to buckle down Winsocki and finish proofing my book so I can enter my fixes, then hand if off to my two proofers for their proofing, after which I’ll enter those fixes, then hand everything off to Grant Geissman to design. We already know what we want the cover to be, so that problem is solved. My plan is to have everything to the printers by the end of May so I can have books by the end of July. So, Sunday will be the day to finish my proofing, I think.

Well, I hate to cut to the chase, but why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I have a really long day ahead of me and I really need my beauty sleep.

Today, I must get up very early and do the long jog, then shave and shower and be on my way to LACC for the third LACCTAA event, An Afternoon With Jeff Greenberg, a very successful casting director for TV, film, and stage. We’re expecting a very good turnout and I really recommend any of our LA lurkers to come on down to hear Jeff. Then, on Tuesday April 14th we have our final LACCTAA event until we start up again in September – An Evening With Jason Robert Brown and Georgia Stitt. We’re expecting a big crowd for that one, too, and it’s going to be a lot of fun – I’ll be doing a Q&A with them and they’ll both be singing their songs. Be there or be round.

This evening I’m going to the Gardenia to see singer Anne Kerry Ford do some sort of new show. I’ll be supping there, too. Not sure who I’m going with, but I’ll rustle up someone.

Tomorrow, I need to proof, relax, and get ready for a really busy upcoming week, including the official announcement of the new Kritzerland release. So, there will be a lot of printing out of orders and addressing of packages and affixing postage all week, in addition to a bunch of meetings, work sessions, and meals, plus taping an Illya Darling radio program with our very own Donald Feltham. I’m exhausted just thinking about it. And, of course, come Friday, if all goes according to Hoyle, will be having a repeat of the shipping madness we had today.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the long jog, do a LACCTAA event, and see a show at the Gardenia. Today’s topic of discussion: We’re all secret closet something-or-others – in your wildest fantasy world, if you could do something you’ve never done, profession-wise, what would it be and why? And why haven’t you done it? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, and I shall try not to dream of The Coming Wee.
