THE PENNY-A-WORD MAN

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am just home from a long evening and have no time to be brilliantly witty or brilliantly verbose or brilliantly brilliant. No, instead I shall just pound out some notes like a penny-a-word man. For example, I can tell you that yesterday was a weirdly weird day but a good one nonetheless (do I get three cents for that word or only one). I got up early, did a really briskly brisk long jog, shaved, showered and toddled off to LACC for our third LACCTAA event. Upon entering the school I saw hundreds of crew people and actors, along with trucks and cameras and sound equipment. There were signs saying that if you entered the campus you were agreeing that your likeness could be used in the film, should the camera happen to see you. I made sure I was giving the finger as I walked onto the campus. We expected a nearly full house for casting director Jeff Greenberg – we ended up with a little under two-thirds and I’m quite certain we lost the other third was because we had a lot of sign-ups who’d never been to the school before – we told them to enter the campus and look to their left, where they’d see the theater building. Only these mo-fos from Hollywood had “dressed” the front of the theater building as a library, including big signs that said “library.” I’m sure people came, couldn’t find the THEATER building and left, confused.

The event itself was stellar – Jeff was charming, honest, forthright, and had great stories and information that was lapped up by those in attendance, who included current students, a lot of outside people who’d heard about it from Cabaret West and a total of two actual alumni – you know, the people were trying to HELP. Their continued lack of support is shocking, and I really don’t care if they come to any of these events anymore, because the word is getting out about how great and informative and helpful they are – and as soon as this becomes “the thing to do” which I’m convinced it will, they’ll start showing up – only they will be the LAST people who get in. We will make this organization succeed despite those for whom we created it and not attending or being supportive is their loss, not ours. End of small rant. A lot of the current students met Jeff afterwards. Jeff is one of those rare casting people who began as an actor and therefore really cares about actors. It was really fun and I think he had a good time. And so, it’s on to our last event, An Evening With Jason Robert Brown and Georgia Stitt on April 14. We’ve got quite a few reservations for that one.

I then came home, printed out a few orders, packaged them up and shipped them. I didn’t really have time to relax, because then I had to go to the Gardenia to see a singer. I’d invited Cason Murphy to join me, and he said he would or that he’d call, but he neither showed up or called, so I dined alone. However, once people started arriving I knew almost everyone in attendance, so I had lots of nice chats with the likes of Shelly Markham (as always with Andrea Marcovicci), Stacy Sullivan, John Boswell, Les Traub and quite a few others. There was a very well-known Hollywood photographer there – his first name is Henry and I can’t exactly remember and/or spell his last name – but I recognized him immediately as the photographer who was on the cruise ship when I shot my final Partridge Family – he was there mostly photographing David Cassidy, but we all hung out together. Very nice and very talented guy.

After that (it was a long show), I came home and ate some cashew nuts and then began the notes. And now we’ve caught up so why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I am very tired and I actually have work to do tomorrow in preparation for going live with the new Kritzerland release first thing Monday morning.

Today, I’m preparing the new Kritzerland release, and I’m also proofing at least fifty to one-hundred pages of the new novel, then I’m eating something amusing, and then I’m going to the DGA to see Monsters vs. Aliens or whatever it’s called – in 3D I believe.

Tomorrow, I’ll be hopefully printing out lots and lots of orders and I hope to finish proofing the new novel so that I can hand it off to my two proofers. Tuesday I think I’m going to have a work session with Mr. David Wechter – we’re working on a movie idea we’ve had for quite some time. Wednesday and Thursday we’ll be addressing packages and hopefully on Friday CDs will arrive and we’ll get them shipped out. And by that time, I hope to know what the next two Kritzerland releases are – one show, one soundtrack, if all goes according to Hoyle.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the long jog, prep a release, proof, eat, and see a motion picture at the DGA. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst this penny-a-word man goes to the bedroom environment having earned about $9.23 on these here notes.
