THE THINK SYSTEM

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I think I’ll write today’s notes using The Think System. I’ll just think the notes and they’ll write themselves. What a splendidly splendid idea – Notes by The Think System. What am I, Professor Harold Hill all of a sudden? Of course, there are times I’d LIKE to write the notes by using The Think System, because there are times when I am very tired and my thought processes are not processing and an unprocessed BK is not a pretty thing. What the HELL am I talking about? Well, it’s Monday, isn’t it. That’s right, no question mark because it was a statement, O Pedants Who May Be Lurking (OPWMBL, in Internet lingo). The only statement that requires a question mark is occasionally my bank statement, but that’s another story. I have some more stories to tell but they’ll have to wait until I’m more alert and with it, not necessarily in that order. Meanwhile, yesterday I had a two-hour rehearsal with the singer. I knew it would be rough going because it’s been a lot of months since she first did the new act, and it was rough going. We have to get her back in performance mode very quickly, so I cut right to the chase and I think things will be much smoother in today’s rehearsal. The act itself is still solid, albeit just a little short, so we’re adding a second encore for New York.

After the rehearsal, I met with Cason Murphy, who’s acting as producer for the Nudie Musical reading at the NoHo Arts Center. It looks like we have a really good turnout for our two days of auditions, so that’s good. We actually have quite a few interesting-looking people for Juanita (the Diana Canova role) and Eunice (the Kathy Hietala role – but much larger than the film), so that’s good. And five roles are already cast, six if Beth Malone can arrange her schedule and do it, which I’m praying she can. We had a nice meal as we worked, over at the French Market CafĂ©, a gay and festive restaurant, with an emphasis on the former. One waiter kept giving Mr. Murphy special glances. I, of course, don’t get special glances anymore, despite being buff and toned with abs and buns of steel.

After that I came home and answered e-mails, finally finished proofing the new novel, which I’m very pleased with (I did catch some doozies, mistakes-wise, and I’m sure my other proofers will catch more). I’ll now enter all my fixes and get this thing to my two proofers. I then had to proof the House Of Flowers booklet and inlay card, which I did. We fixed those fixes, and now that’s gone off to MGM for approval. If all goes according to Hoyle, the print will go to the printers and the master to the pressing plant, all by Tuesday. I’m hoping the official announcement will happen in the next day or two. But no time to rest, as I then have to write new liner notes for the release that follows, a soundtrack and a terrific one. I’m going to try and have that package done before I leave for New York on May 6. I’ll probably announce it the day I return from New York.

After that, I started watching a Claude Lelouch French film from France – I got about halfway through and it’s quite entertaining, albeit a little long. I’ll finish it this very evening and have a full report.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I’ve used The Think System on this section and must now use it on the next section.

Today = busy. Busy = today. Today/busy, busy/today. Any way you slice it, today is a busy day and a busy day is today. I have to do the long jog first thing upon arising, then I must do some work on the computer, then must do some errands and whatnot, then must have a two-hour rehearsal, then must pick up some CD-Rs of an upcoming Kritzerland soundtrack release (there are two before we get to this one) – there were a lot of tapes so I had them all transferred to CD-Rs so I can figure out exactly what I have and how much extra music there is that wasn’t on the original LP release. I’m hoping at least ten to fifteen minutes, which would be ideal. Then again, there may be no extra music, in which case we go back to plan B and I couple this soundtrack with another similar one. After picking up the tapes, I have a couple more errands to do, then I’ll listen to the CD-Rs, then I have to do a road map of edits and sequence for the next release so we can prep that one.

Tomorrow, of course, is the first of our two casting days. We begin at two o’clock. I will, of course, have a full report for you. Wednesday, it’s more casting, then I’m hoping that Thursday and Friday can be light days for me, although I’m sure we’ll be addressing preorders for House Of Flowers and doing as much of that as we can prior to my leaving for New York. Friday night I’m seeing my pal Doug Cohen’s musical, No Way To Treat A Lady.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the long jog (a necessity), I must do errands and whatnot, I must have a rehearsal, I must pick up CD-Rs and tapes, and I must listen to same, whilst doing lots of other work. Today’s topic of discussion: What is the single best stage show you’ve ever seen – whether play or musical or one-person show – the one you couldn’t ever forget – the one that took you places no other show has. Where was it done, who was in it, why was it the best? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I use The Think System to get my beauty sleep.
