BACK TO WORK

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it’s back to work and there will be a lot of it during the next month (and thereafter). There will be no time to tarry or dally or even dally or tarry. In fact, I would be wary of anyone who can tarry and frankly only people named Sally should dally. Since I’m quite certain that I will be rudely awakened at seven in the morning by loud bulldozers and yammering, I’d better get these here notes written so I can attempt to get a decent night’s sleep.

I had a nice, relaxing day yesterday. I did begin proofing the Nudie Musical lead sheets, which are riddled with errors in both notation and chords, so I began correcting them and will get together with the fellow who did them toward the end of the week, so he can just enter everything while I’m there, and then play it for me so I can make sure all the rhythms are correct. I must have all the charts done and corrected by the weekend, so I can get them to the cast and the musical director. I also saw an audition (sent via the Internet) of a potential Rosie, and she was pretty good and I’m at the point where I may just say yes to her – she seems to really want to do it, and she seemed to “get” the part. This morning I should be getting a list of submissions for Rosie from an agent and if there are enough gals we’ll schedule an audition session, but only if I know I’ve got two solid hours of people coming in – otherwise I’m not wasting more money on an audition room. So, we’ll see what this list looks like. I delivered a box o’ CDs to my local dealer, and I had a lovelier than lovely and very filling lunch at Islands, which is what I was in the mood for. And that was about it – I refused to take calls and I only answered a handful of e-mail. I also sent out an e-mail blast for the Nudie reading. We’ve been getting reservations for the last week and it looks like both performances should be full. If anyone from the site is planning on coming out to see it, please get your reservations in. I did spend a lot of time sitting on the couch like so much fish.

Last night, I managed to watch two count them two motion pictures on Blu-Ray. The first motion picture on Blu-Ray was entitled Run, Lola, Run, a German film from Germany. I saw it when it was first released on DVD and I liked it enough to run it twice in a row. I haven’t seen it since then, but I’m happy to report it’s just as fresh and fun as it was back then. In fact, the director, whose first feature film it was, has never topped it. It’s got a good story, the structure is unique, and the director, rather than trying to imitate all the “hip” directors, just does very stylish things that are unique to him and his film – from the very first frames it is clear that this guy is in love with cinema and it shows in every subsequent frame. Franke Potente is wonderful as Lola, and the Blu-Ray looks very good indeed. Sans title, the film clocks in at a very brief seventy-five minutes, but they’re seventy-five wonderful minutes and if you haven’t seen the film it is highly recommended by the likes of me. I then watched the second motion picture on Blu-Ray, which was entitled The Gauntlet, directed by and starring Mr. Clint Eastwood, and co-starring Miss Sondra Locke. I’ve always liked the film, even though the script is very weak. Eastwood and Locke have terrific chemistry, Pat Hingle is excellent, and the various action scenes, while extremely repetitive, are well directed by Eastwood. And I like the score by Jerry Fielding. The Blu-Ray quality is top-notch (I’m sure Clint supervised these transfers, as none of them have the usual Warners brown look), in fact, it looks better than it did in the theaters, where the print quality was extremely and unnecessarily grainy.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because it’s back to work and there is a lot of it to do.

Today, the bulk of the day will be consumed with doing the corrections on the Nudie charts – that will probably take five or six hours, as it’s time consuming and I have to check every note, chord symbol, and lyric. I also have a couple of errands and whatnot to do, some food to eat, some telephonic calls to make, and some e-mails to answer.

The rest of the week is filled with Nudie stuff, casting stuff, a couple of get-togethers, and a lot of organizational stuff, as we start rehearsals in a mere two weeks. And not only that, has anyone noticed that it’s almost June? Almost June? I’ll say it a third time – almost JUNE???

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the long jog (time permitting), correct lots of charts, do errands and whatnot, and eat. Today’s topic of discussion: Until someone e-mails me some topics I’m going to leave them to you dear readers, because right now I have too much going on to even think about thinking about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst we buckle down, Winsocki and get back to work.
