DON’T HOLD THE MAYO DAY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, don’t hold the mayo because today is Cinco de Mayo, the 5th of May. So, let’s put on our gaily-colored serapes, let’s do the Mexican Hat Dance, let’s eat tacos y enchiladas y churros, and say Hola to anyone we see. Exactly thirty-four years ago, on May 5th, 1975, we began filming on The First Nudie Musical. And, in a nice bit of serendipity, six years later, on May 5th, 1981, we began filming on The Creature Wasn’t Nice. So, I’ve always had a soft spot in my heart for May 5th, or 5/5 in Internet lingo. So, today, in honor of those two events, let’s all sing my two biggest hit songs, Dancing Dildos and I Want To Eat Your Face. Record yourselves singing and then share it with us in today’s posts. Other than that, I am getting ready to be on my way to New York, New York, the city that never sleeps. I have a lot to do today, so I think I’ll keep the notes nice and short and also short and nice.

Yesterday was mostly a fine day, save for having to scream at more than the usual number of idiot drivers on the streets of Los Angeles. I did the long jog, returned tapes, then had a rehearsal, which went very well. I gave notes, then left and came back to the Valley and ate a nice luncheon at Hugo’s. After that, I picked up mail, did some more errands, finished prepping our next release and got all those materials to the web gal and the designer. After all that, I actually managed to sit on my couch like so much fish and watch one hour of DVD entertainment.

Last night, I watched two half-hour episodes of Peyton Place, a TV series I’d never seen before. I found it very entertaining, and that wonderful theme by Franz Waxman is used quite a bit, so that was grand. Mia Farrow is so cute and so sweet and the camera just eats her up. Ryan O’Neal is finding his way, Chris Connelly is excellent, and Dorothy Malone is always fun to watch. Barbara Parkins is comely. Best of all is Kasey Rogers (aka Laura Elliot, aka Mrs. Guy Haines). As some may know, I became friends with Miss Rogers back in the late 1990s, and I just adored her. The transfers are excellent and I’m looking forward to watching more episodes of what was the first prime-time soap opera.

After that, it was back to work – I had a long telephonic call with Miss Crista Moore, whose act I’ll be directing when both of us find the time to do it. And I had to send more mp3s of Nudie songs to the transcription guy. It’s amazing how much time all that takes, and by the time one is through the evening is done.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because it’s Don’t Hold The Mayo Day, and I feel like singing Besame Mucho.

Today, I’ll have to do the long jog very early, and then I have an eleven-thirty rehearsal, which I hope will be done by one. I’ll come home, buy whatever little toiletries I need, go to the bank, and then pack. I want to be completely finished with all that by four. I’ll have already printed out my boarding pass, too, so I’m hoping by four I can just stop everything and relax. I’ll eat an early dinner, write early notes, post them early, and be in bed by nine or ten.

Then it’s up at four-thirty, and out of the house at five and on my way to the airport. Send lots of excellent vibes and xylophones for a safe and on-time trip. If all goes according to Hoyle I’ll be in the city by five and settled into a new hotel. I’ll be meeting some folks at Joe Allen, so drop me a line if you want to stop by and say hello.

Let’s put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, let’s all dance the Hora and The Brain Tap for today is the birthday of our very own George and also his twin, George II. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to our very own George and also his twin, George II. On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO OUR VERY OWN GEORGE AND ALSO HIS TWIN, GEORGE II!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the long jog, rehearse, shop, bank, eat, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Cinco de Mayo – what are your favorite dishes from South Of The Border Down Meheeco Way? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, and don’t forget to record your renditions of Dancing Dildos and I Want To Eat Your Face and share them.
