EASY BREEZY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it’s a holiday Monday and I, for one or even two, am glad to have the day all to myself. Oh, I do have to do some work but not that much and most of the day I shall rest and relax, not necessarily in that order. And that includes writing these here notes. Tomorrow perhaps I’ll have some amusingly amusing anecdotes for you, but today I am taking it easy, notes-wise – easy breezy, that’s what I’M talkin’ about. Frankly, even though I got a decent night’s sleep I’m still really overtired, and I know the early morning noise will start up again tomorrow morning, so if I don’t get my needed rest then I could possibly turn unpleasant and snippy and terse and an unpleasant, snippy, and terse BK is, quite frankly, unpleasant, snippy, and terse. Yesterday I even had a few snippy moments in my work session, as it went from a hoped one-hour session to a three-hour session, which was just what I didn’t want and/or need. Some of what we heard was fine – my notes had been addressed and all was well. But too many other songs were still rough and I was baffled and a little irked that my notes hadn’t been implemented, because we’d worked on these, things had been written down, played, and approved. So, now we’re back to needing another work session to get those back to where they were, and it’s just like I’m wasting my breath sometimes. This will be changing as I will not do any further work sessions on the score unless there’s a tape recorder and our work is recorded – then, if things are forgotten, there’s the tape of what we did and I don’t have to do the same work twice. I found the entire three-hour session very frustrating and couldn’t wait for it to be over. I then came home and sat on my couch like so much fish.

Yesterday, I managed to watch a motion picture on Blu-Ray, but before I talk about that, the night before I was up until two-thirty watching another motion picture on Blu-Ray, which was entitled Taken, starring Mr. Liam Neeson. In olden times, Taken would have been the bottom half of a double bill. It’s a good little picture with a standard issue plot, a director who’s very much a product of the Bourne style of filmmaking, and a really good leading man. But the film knows what it is, it tells its story economically and quickly (eighty-five minutes sans end credits), and I enjoyed it for what it was. It would have worked better had it had a real villain – it has a group of villains and, dramatically, that’s not as much fun. The transfer is excellent – sharp, good sound, and it reproduces the occasionally on purpose grain very well. Yesterday I watched a motion picture entitled Big, starring Mr. Tom Hanks. I hadn’t seen it since it came out, and it was fun watching it again. It’s a film that does everything right because it never makes fun of its story or characters and therefore we care and believe – a lot of that credit goes to Mr. Hanks’ performance, which is terrific. Penny Marshall, the director, stays out of everyone’s way and her cameraman, Barry Sonnenfeld, who was about to embark on his own directing career, did a really good job making the film visually pleasing. It’s not only funny, it’s very touching. The score by Howard Shore also helps immeasurably. The Blu-Ray disc is perhaps a little softer than it should be, but it’s reasonably nice with excellent color.

What am I, Ebert and Roeper all of a sudden? Why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must keep these notes easy breezy and I must get my beauty sleep.

After the films, I had to have a telephonic conversation, and then I just listened to CDs and tried to relax. I even played the piano, and I began printing out all the Nudie Musical sheet music. But before all of that, I had a lovelier than lovely supper with our very own Miss Alet Taylor.

Today, I will do a little writing and nothing else. I shall not go anywhere, save to get some food – I will just sit on my couch like so much fish and watch Blu-Ray discs all the livelong day and night.

Tomorrow, and each day thereafter, I have two things to deal with – final casting on Nudie, and final prep work on the next two Kritzerland releases. It’s going to be a very busy week, but I have two fun get-togethers to attend, so that will be fun.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the long jog (a must), relax, watch Blu-Ray discs, and find something amusing to eat. Today’s topic of discussion: I’m afraid I am out of topics for a few days, so I’m going to ask you dear readers to e-mail me your suggestions for topics – after seven-plus years my brain has ceased to function, topic-wise, but I’m quite sure there are some fun ones we haven’t done, so send your e-mails and I’ll compile a list. In the meantime, let’s have a food topic today, so I can get some ideas about what I want to eat. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I conclude these easy breezy notes.
