THE MIGHTY TIRED BK

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it is quite late and I must write these here notes in a hurry because I am mighty tired and a mighty tired BK is not a pretty sight. It was another long day yesterday. The alarm woke me up at eight – well, not a real alarm, just the peckerwoods next door hammering for no earthly reason. They woke everyone up and their hammering was through by eight-fifteen, and even though they were working there was not a peep after eight-fifteen. There’s something wrong with these peckerwoods – they have no respect, no consideration, and they WILL get theirs, oh, yes, they will get theirs – that I can guarantee you. Since I was up, I did some work on the computer, did the long jog, and then got ready to go to the Film Score Monthly get-together. I’d never been to one of these before, but I was interested to put faces with names for a few of the message board posters. It turned out to be an interesting couple of hours – met some nice folks, saw a couple of people that I’ve had major tiffs with online – one of them who shall remain nameless looked exactly what you would imagine him to look like if you read his posts. There were several Kritzerland fans there, so that was fun, and I did know a bunch of people. The event itself was peculiar and they showed an excerpt of a documentary some guy in Canada is making about the man who runs the label. It was, I thought, amateurishly done. After the twenty-minute excerpt, everyone introduced themselves, and then it was like a roundtable discussion. I had to leave at three, and so I don’t know what all went on in the final hour. I then came back to the Valley, did a couple of errands, ate some pizza at Dino’s, and then got ready to see a play, and evening of six one-acts at a theater in Hollywood.

My cousins had seen it last week and I was told there were some talented folks in it and it was written by someone that my cousin had worked for. It was in a little hole of a theater in Hollywood, but the one-acts were short and it was a nice evening at the theater. The whole thing with intermission was just under two hours. The longest of the one-acts, the final one, was very well done, and the lead actress in that one was just terrific. The others were of varying quality – some of them, I suspect, would have played a little better with a different director at the helm. After that, I came home and sat on my couch like so much fish and finished the motion picture I was watching.

Last night, I finished a motion picture I was watching on a Blu-Ray disc. The motion picture was entitled Rising Sun, starring Sean Connery and Wesley Snipes, from the novel by Michael Crichton, directed by Philip Kaufman. I’d seen it when it first came out and didn’t think much of it, but watching it on Blu-Ray wasn’t such a terrible experience and I actually kind of enjoyed it for what it was. I gather the book is much better and that they changed the killer and several other things for the film, even though Crichton is listed as one of the screenwriters. Connery and Snipes are very good together, the camerawork is excellent, and Kaufman is an interesting director. The script is pretty klunky, with some really bad exposition scenes. The film does have a wonderful score by the great Toru Takemitsu. The Blu-Ray is excellent.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I am mighty tired and a mighty tired BK is not a pretty thing.

I’m happy to say that today will be a day of rest. All I have to do is give the final once-over to the God’s Little Acre package and send it off for approval to MGM, and that is it. I intend to relax, watch motion pictures on Blu-Ray, and listen to CDs, as well as do the long jog, and maybe talk to and/or meet up with Cason to look at the rehearsal schedule he’s come up with.

I’ve already mentioned the busy week ahead so no need to reiterate, other than to say I’m really looking forward to all the work and craziness. It will be a new month and I’m hoping it’s a really wonderful one, health-wise, money-wise, and work-wise, for everyone.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the long jog (maybe), finish proofing, and then watch movies and listen to CDs and approve a rehearsal schedule. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst the mighty tired BK hits the road to dreamland.
