June 3, 2009:

THE YAHOOS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, June is already flying by, like a gazelle singing Old Man River. I have the feeling that June will be flying by in record time, or, at the very least, in CD time. Yesterday, I was awakened at eight o’clock in the morning by two yahoos having a conversation right in front of my bedroom window. Why said yahoos couldn’t have had the conversation across the yard is anyone’s guess. Add to that, ten minutes later we had silence until about ten o’clock, so had these yahoos had a modicum of courtesy or respect, they could have let me sleep another half-hour. Damn them, damn them all to hell. By the time I finished my morning ablutions I decided it was too late to do the long jog. Then my musical director called and asked if we could move up our work session, so I got in the motor car and headed right over to him. We had a nice session, found more mistakes that we fixed, and he seems very much on top of everything. I came back to the Valley, picked up a small package and shipped a few packages and envelopes, then came home to an e-mail that we were losing a cast member. However, of anyone we could lose, this was the least important, as it’s a very easy part to recast, which we’re now attempting to do. I then toddled off to Stanley’s to meet with Cason. We went over our rehearsal schedule, which seems like it will work, and we went over several other details. We’re about half-filled for each performance, which isn’t bad for two weeks before the show, and we haven’t heard from most of the cast regarding how many tickets they’ll need, so I’m quite certain we’ll be sold out, not that you can ever count on people when the tickets are free. In fact, it’s my plan to overbook for each night by about twenty people. After that, I came home, did some more proofing of the new Kritzerland site, found more mistakes, plus our very own JMK and DAW proofed and found their own set of things, all of which I’ve forwarded to our designer, who will now make those corrections, then we’ll all go through it again. Later this week, we’ll be setting up the paypal shopping cart, which were hoping will work better than the older version we’ve been using (especially for International customers). I’m so much happier with the look and feel and ease of this new version of the site and I’m hoping you all will be, too. Once it’s all set up, it’s my intention to start having interviews, doing video footage, and, in general, make it a much more inviting and fun place to visit.

After that, I sat on my couch like so much fish and watched a motion picture on Blu-Ray entitled Paycheck, a film of John Woo, starring Ben Affleck and Uma Thurman. I’d seen it on DVD back when it came out and enjoyed it, and I enjoyed it even more on Blu-Ray. The film didn’t do well at the box-office, which I find puzzling, as it’s no worse than any number of mindless and terrible action films that people adore and love and that I loathe. This one moves right along, has an interesting premise, is fun, and has John Woo, which puts it a cut above all the others. People on the imdb said they found it unbelievable – but these are the same people who find other terrible sci-fi and action films awesome and have no problem with, say, Casino Royale, where the stunts are just so stupid and unbelievable it’s not even funny. I don’t really care for Ben Affleck, so that’s a little problem, but Uma’s good and the action scenes are over-the-top and fun. The Blu-Ray is superb – sharp, colorful, and really energetic sound.

I’ve also begun watching the first season of Star Trek on Blu-Ray. I’ve watched two episodes so far and the show still doesn’t quite know what it wants to be or who the regulars are. Chekov hasn’t even made an appearance yet. I’ve been watching the version with the new fx shots and they look great. The disc quality is astounding – this show has never looked this good, ever. I’m looking forward to more episodes – the music is really good, too.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I’m sure the yahoos will be having a five-minute conversation at eight – just long enough to wake me up.

Today, I am lunching with the lady from MGM – we’re going to Genghis Cohen and I’m salivating already. After that, I have a bunch of errands and whatnot to attend to, and then I’m sure I’ll be dealing with our recasting the role that’s been vacated.

Tomorrow and Friday are lighter days, sort of, and that’s a good thing because the next two weeks are going to be so busy I shan’t have a moment to rest and/or relax. I’m not sure what’s going on this weekend, but I know there’s stuff to do and I’m quite certain I shall be doing it.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the long jog (for sure), I must lunch, I must do errands and whatnot, and I must get ready for the official announcement of the new Kritzerland release and attendant onslaught (hopefully) of orders. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst we wait for the yahoos to wake me up with their useless gabbing outside my bedroom window.
