A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE NEW HARRY POTTER MOVIE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I had a fairly restful Saturday doing fairly restful things, such as jogging, proofing, eating, and going to see the new Harry Potter movie. But, a funny thing happened on the way to the new Harry Potter movie – the screening was on Friday night, not last night. When I arrived at the DGA an hour early, the theater was completely full, which I thought was really odd. But, when I queried the staff as to what was going on, they informed me that the Harry Potter screening had been the night before and this sold out screening was for Public Enemies. Yes, the brainiac members of the DGA who, for example, did not show up for the Star Trek movie (barely half full) showed up for this unmitigated piece of dreck – a critcal and box-office disaster. Which tells you all you need to know about the current members of the DGA. Since I would rather have had sausages put into my eyes rather than see Public Enemies again, I left and came home. Prior to that fiasco I’d done the three-mile jog, I’d proofed five chapters, I’d eaten some pasta, and I’d done some errands. After I came home from the screening, I was so annoyed that I went and had some chocolate mousse cake at Jerry’s Deli – that made me feel much better. I then came home and sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched the first three episodes of Lost, Season Two. Episode one was terrific and reminded me of the heady days when Alias was getting it right. Episode two was also quite good, episode three a little less so. Where the writers occasionally fail (as they failed occasionally with Alias) is that given the sort of let’s make it up as we go plotting, they need characters to behave a certain way, even if it’s contrary to what we’ve come to know. And the endless use of the word “What?” every time someone says something (or “Excuse me?” – which is the second most used line), is just lazy writing. But, despite the nitpicking, it’s holding my attention and I’ll probably be moving on to seasons three and four (and five, when it comes out). Obviously, I can’t watch season six when it begins, unless season five has come out and I’ve seen it.

After those episodes, I took a drive in the motor car, then came home, proofed a little more, and then it was time to write these here notes, which, as you might surmise, I am doing right this very minute.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because a funny thing happened on the way to the new Harry Potter movie, and I must rectify that situation this very day.

Today, I will absolutely be finished proofing the new book. I shall then relax, and then I shall go to the Grauman’s Chinese to see the new Harry Potter movie. I haven’t been to the Grauman’s Chinese (one of my favorite movie theaters) since a private premiere screening of the TV movie of Cinderella, starring Brandi. I’m told they’ve redone the inside, so I’m anxious to see it and hoping it still looks like it’s supposed to. I’m sorry to see it’s digital projection (I still prefer film), but I suppose it will be all right. Then I’ll have something amusing to eat, and then I’ll come home and relax some more.

This week is going to be very busy indeed. I’m hoping to have our new release either on Friday or Monday next (it depends on when the print gets there), so I’ll be addressing all those packages, and then I have to write the liner notes for the new release and get that packaging done and to the printers, as we’ll announce that a week from Thursday, most likely. I also have a big work session with Kevin and Linda, several meetings, and entering the final fixes for the book and sending that off to the publisher.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the long jog, I must finish proofing a book, I must see the new Harry Potter movie, and then I must have some relaxing time, and perhaps watch another episode or two of Lost, Season Two. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hopefully don’t have to say a funny thing happened on the way to the new Harry Potter movie.
