AS A WISE MAN ONCE SAID…

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am quite ready for bed because I did quite too much work today, a day in which I should have not been working at all. I got up around nine-fifteen, so that was nice. I then proofed a couple of chapters, and then did a two-mile jog because it was really hot out. And then I began addressing packages, which took a few hours, after which I put postage on them, which took another hour. I was supposed to have a new helper, but the new helper never bothered to return my call (we’d made arrangements that she would call me in the morning). So, I think she’s basically a bust. By the time I finished it was after three, and I went out and got a sandwich, which I brought home and ate up. I proofed four more chapters, which, of course, is very slow going. I had a couple of telephonic conversations, and proofed the CD package for the next Kritzerland release. After all that, I finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Yesterday, I watched more episodes of Lost, Season One. I understand why some people love the show, but, thus far, while I’m enjoying it, I can’t even say I’m enjoying it as much as I did Alias, Season One. I do understand I’m getting a lot of backstory information right now, but there’s a sameness to at least the first nine episodes. I also find a couple of the characters really irritating. They’re also cast in what must be the J.J. Abrams mold – the lead gal sort of has a Jennifer Garner vibe to her, and everyone has that three-day-old stubble that’s so now (and not because they’re stranded on an island – it’s never a beard – it’s always stubble). I like the cast for the most part, and certainly the show is very well shot and produced. And Michael Giacchino, who on Alias and this show was not writing to a temp track, provides really good music that really helps the show a lot. I’ll be interested to see where it’s going and where it goes in Season Two.

After my viewing, I proofed another few pages, but I was pretty much all in by that point.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I’m suffering from drain of the brain and have not one thing left to say in this section. I apologize for the brevity of this section, but brevity, as a wise man once said, is the soul of wit. At least I think that’s what a wise man once said.

Today, I shall be up early, I shall do the long jog before it gets too hot, and then I shall have a two or three hour work session with Miss Linda Purl and Mr. Kevin Spirtas, along with the wonderful pianist, Mr. John Boswell. When that is over, I shall come home and do nothing else, save for proofing some more of the book. I shall also find something amusing to eat, because I’m a little bored of eating the same three meals over and over and over again.

Tomorrow, I have a lunch meeting at Musso and Frank, and, of course, I’ll be looking very forward to that and having my beloved Combination Louis (for those who’ve never been to Musso and Frank, there is an entire chapter in the new book that takes place there, and everything is described in loving detail). Wednesday, I have another work session with Kevin and Linda, Thursday I think I have a lunch or dinner date, can’t remember which, and Friday I have no idea what’s going on. I also think I have to see a show or two this week, and hope I’ve written down the details somewhere.

Let’s put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, let’s dance the Hora and the Wah-Watusi, for today is the birthday of that supremely wild and wacky woman, Miss Karen. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to that supremely wild and wacky woman, Miss Karen. On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO THAT SUPREMELY WILD AND WACKY WOMAN, MISS KAREN!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the long jog, have a work session, proof more book, and eat something amusing. Today’s topic of discussion: What is the most spontaneous thing you’ve ever done – something totally unexpected and out of the blue – you just DID it. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst we remember that a wise man once said let’s have loads of lovely postings.
