July 29, 2009:

MITZI

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I have a long day ahead of me so I think I’d just better write these here notes in a hurry so I can get a semblance of my beauty sleep. So, first things first – how can this be the end of July? This month has flown by like a gazelle doing a half gainer or, at the very least, a Mitzi Gaynor. Do we think the name Mitzi will ever make a comeback, like Lily and Sophie? I’ve known very few Mitzis in my life – of course, my mother was one of them. I feel we should have a spate of Mitzis in the upcoming decade, along with Eunice, Betsy, Nanette, and others. In any case, July is almost over and August is almost upon us, and we’ll have more to say about that very soon. I had a rather uneventful day yesterday. Oh, I got up early and did the long jog. Oh, I did a whole slew of errands and whatnot and lunched at Islands. Oh, I picked up one lonely package at the mail place. Oh, I did more errands and whatnot, had a few telephonic conversations, had a brief visit from my friend Richard Jones, and delivered a big box o’ CDs to the local dealer. And then, of course, I finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched four more episodes of Lost, Season Two. As usual, I thought a couple of episodes were corkers, and a couple just had too many things that were overwrought or badly-written, most especially the writing and playing of the Australian gals big scenes about her baby and what really went on. She plays these scenes (and there have been many strewn throughout season one and now two) at the same hysterical pitch and it does get tiresome, and at one point, I did shout at the TV again, “Shut up, already.” I also do not like when a character behaves stupidly because the writer needs the character to do so, to do a fake-out scene or a twist or whatever. I continue to be impressed by the production values, the look, and the music, as well as many of the performances. I’ve already decided that when I finish season two I’ll be moving directly to seasons three and four. I will say that watching them on Blu and Ray is the only way I would do this – I would not enjoy watching these on TV with commercial breaks every six minutes and a week between each show.

After that, I listened to some CDs, had another couple of telephonic calls, and then did some work on the computer. And that’s all the news that’s fit to print and all the print that’s news to fit.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because the morning hours will be here all too soon and I must be fresh as a daisy for the long day ahead.

I feel that today we should just call everyone we come in contact with Mitzi. Won’t that just confuse everyone no end? It will be ever so amusing, so let’s do it. I’ll start: Mitzi. Oh, that was most amusing.

Today, if I’m to do the long jog I’ll have to be out the door by nine, as I have an eleven o’clock work session with the authors of the long musical. We’re going to sit there for hours and listen to the score. We’ll see if my notes have been interpolated, both musically and lyrically, and there are about four things I haven’t heard at all. They are supposed to be completely finished with the score, but I suspect that won’t quite be the case. After that, I’m supposed to go to Mr. Grant Geissman’s to enter the final fixes for the new book and I’m hoping that that is still the case, as I really need to put this to bed.

Tomorrow is a work session with Miss Linda Purl and Mr. Kevin Spirtas – that will take a few hours. I also have to write liner notes and get our new release prepped for announcing, and I think I’ll also be picking up some tapes to hear for potential future releases.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the long jog, I must have a long work session, I must hopefully enter final fixes, and, at some point, I must eat something amusing whilst calling everyone Mitzi. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, Mitzi?
