YESTERDAY WAS BETTER THAN THE DAY BEFORE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, yesterday was better than the day before, and that’s a good thing in my book (Chapter Three – Yesterday Was Better Than The Day Before). I got up early, did the long jog early, and shipped out a bunch of packages. I then spent the next couple of hours writing the liner notes for the next Kritzerland release. After that, it was time for errands and whatnot, answering e-mails, catching up on telephonic conversations (including a nice one with our very own Juliana A. Hansen in far-off New York). Then the rough cut of Two’s Company, the LACCTAA benefit I directed back in November of 2001, was delivered to me and I watched the first act, which I found pretty terrific. The gal who edited did a really good job. Then I took a break and had a meal and meeting with our very own Mr. Cason Murphy, and it was a good meal and a good meeting. Mr. Murphy will be helping out on several upcoming projects – he did a bang-up job producing the Nudie Musical reading and he did it under very difficult circumstances. So, that made me feel a lot more comfortable about how things will work for the next few months. After that, I came home and did some more work on the liner notes and then watched act two of Two’s Company, which was also really good. For me, the most moving and emotional moment was Michelle Nicastro singing Part Of Your World. We have so much wonderful history together and Part Of Your World was the first song we recorded for her Toonful album. Michelle has had horrendous health problems to deal with, but because she is one of the most beautiful, warm, and positive people who ever was put on this Earth, she has dealt with the problems amazingly – she’s a real role model and I love her dearly. In fact, when she began singing, I began blubbering like a baby. There were many highlights in the show, more even than I remembered there being. Bruce Vilanch is absolutely hilarious, even when he’s mangling poor Stephen Schwartz’s lyrics to No Time At All. Andy Taylor stops the show with Menken’s Pink Fish. But the audience cheers are there for everyone – no sweetening needed. Alet Taylor does wonderfully, as do Julie Reiber, Emily Rozek, Patrick Cassidy, Rex Smith, Kristen Chandler, Gregg Jbara, Matt Ashford, Kevin Spirtas, Valerie Pettiford, Raymond Del Barrio, Kevin Earley, Alice Ripley, Jennifer Leigh Warren, Chad Kimball, Linda Purl (how sexy is this woman), Beth Malone, Kim Huber, Zane Huett, Juliana A. Hansen, David Burnham, Marlana Filannino (replacing Vicki Lewis on literally a moment’s notice), and our mighty ensemble. The band sounds great and the show has a wonderful flow to it. I’m going to make some nips and tucks and a few re-edits, but it’s only about a half-hour’s worth of work. Then we’ll brighten a few shots, add some credits, and up-rez the video. I’m going to make some copies for private distribution, and she’ll be making me Quick Time clips for YouTube.

I also watched a motion picture on DVD entitled My Blood Runs Cold, starring Miss Joey Heatherton and Mr. Troy Donahue. It’s quite a bad film, poorly directed by William Conrad but well shot in Panavision by Sam Leavitt. Miss Heatherton looks fetching, and I always enjoy Mr. Donahue, but the story and script are sub-par and the thing runs 104 minutes, which is about thirty minutes too long. The one truly successful element of the film is the excellent score by George Duning, one of my all-time favorite film composers. The transfer is one of the better looking from the Warner Archive Collection.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because yesterday was better than the day before and hopefully today will be better than yesterday straight through the entire week.

Today, I must finish the liner notes and send them in, I must do the long jog, I have several errands and what nots to attend to, I must eat something amusing, and then I’ll be doing the little editing fixes on Two’s Company. The editor gal is also making me Quick Time clips of What If, so I can finally post a few of those to YouTube.

I’m having lunch with our very own dear reader Jeanne on Thursday, and I have a few other meetings to do, that haven’t been finalized yet. And then Grant and I have to attend to the book design – I’m just waiting on him to give me a time to do it.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the long jog, ship a couple of packages, do errands and whatnots, and fix some edits. Today’s topic of discussion: If you could have Kritzerland release on CD any album you could choose, what album would you choose and why? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst we are thankful that yesterday was better than the day before.
